WHAT YOU'LL DO

Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor(Non-Contact/Temporary) provides comprehensive classroominstruction to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose offacilitating the attainment of their academic or vocationalobjectives. In accordance with the provisions of Education Codesections 87482.5, Instructors (Non-Contract/Temporary) may beemployed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.

Representative Duties
  • Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, orperformance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities,communication skills, and higher order thinking skills amongstudents through appropriate assignments and activities inone-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructionalsettings.   • Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, otherinstitutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, andeffective study skills; refer students to support services,programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate. E
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting courseobjectives and student learning outcomes through assignments,projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in atimely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or duringestablished consultation office hours. E
  • Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlinesand student learning outcomes to maximize student learning inalignment with department, college, and district goals; implementthe student performance objectives as listed on the official courseoutline of record. E
  • Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment,attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum, andstudent learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reportsrelated to course and student progress in a timely manner. E
  • Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks,manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, withdiscipline faculty; order instructional materials according tocampus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery. E
  • Revise and update course content and materials of instruction inaccordance with new theory, application, and industry developmentswithin the discipline or area of specialization. E
  • Update syllabi; collaborate with discipline faculty on a regularbasis to assess and revise measurable student performanceindicators for each course. E
  • May participate in curriculum and program development; may provideinput into the development of student learning outcomes.
  • May attend and participate on committees and in department,division, campus, and district meetings.
  • May participate in articulation and matriculation relatedactivities.
  • May provide work direction to others.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for thediscipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Boardof Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualificationsfor Faculty and Administrators in California Community Collegeshandbook.

Any Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professionalexperience OR any Associate's degree and six yearsof professional experience OR the equivalent*OR possession of a valid CaliforniaCommunity College Teaching Credential appropriate to thediscipline.

Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses amaster's degree. The professional experience required must bedirectly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment. Professional experience includes teaching experience. Therequirement is for the stated number of years of full-timeexperience or the equivalent in part-time experience. Unpaidexperience may be counted if it entailed responsibilitiessubstantially similar to those of relevant paid positions in thefield. A "year" means that period of time which in that occupationis accepted by contract or general agreement as a regular work yearfor that occupation on a full-time basis.

All coursework must be from a recognized accredited collegeor university.

*EQUIVALENCY

The Ventura County Community College District, in its desire toselect outstanding faculty members from the largest possible poolof qualified applicants, recognizes the fact that candidates mayattain expertise in a discipline through a variety of means.Certain combinations of education, experience and otheraccomplishments in the field may be judged by the District as equalto the stated minimum qualifications for this position. Candidateswhose transcripts do not list the title of their degree exactly aslisted above, but feel they possess such equivalent qualificationsare encouraged to complete and submit the Supplemental Questionnairefor Equivalency (Download PDF reader) with their application for review by the DistrictwideEquivalency Committee.

PAY PHILOSOPHY

Starting salaries for PT Faculty are based on educationalachievement and relevant experience. Initial placement is withinthe starting salary range. STARTING SALARY

Part-time faculty with classroom assignments are paid between $2,007 and $3,108 per semesterper 10% load.

Part-time faculty salaries are governed by the collectivebargaining agreement between the Ventura County Federation ofCollege Teachers, AFT, Local 1828, AFL-CIO and the Ventura CountyCommunity College District. More information can be found in the AFTcontract.
