Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Instructor I creates and provides a safe learning environment designed to engage students and children in academic, mental, and physical health, life skills, and enrichment activities in an educational setting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Create lesson plans and implement activities that foster a climate where children and students are actively engaged in age-appropriate play, learning, and meaningful experiences.
- Teach participants basic concepts of alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, and comparisons as appropriate.
- Use age-appropriate behavioral techniques to redirect participants’ behavior.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and propose plans for improvement.
- Maintain effective and efficient record‑keeping procedures.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with parents, participants, and other professionals on a regular basis.
- Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with participants, parents, peers, and the community.
- Ensure continuous and appropriate student growth and achievement for the age group, subject area, and program classification.
- Assume responsibility for meeting course and school‑wide student performance goals.
- Demonstrate gains in student performance.
- Meet performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or organizational planning.
- Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of effective early childhood learning and play activities.
- Age‑appropriate methods of redirecting inappropriate behaviors.
- Knowledge of common core standards and competencies required for out‑of‑school time programs.
Skills
- Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications, including Microsoft Office.

Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum Degree: Associate degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited university/college. Preference is given to candidates with an Associate degree.
- Experience: At least 2 years of classroom teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training approved by Human Resources.
- Required Disciplines:
- Education or related field.
- For the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program: Applicants must achieve a score of 70% or higher on the basic mathematics and language arts assessment administered by ACCESS, or provide documentation of an equivalent score within the past three years.
- For Adult and Family Learning: Early Childhood Education or a Child Development Associate Credential.
Licenses & Certifications
- No licenses or certifications required at the date of hire.
- Within one year from date of hire: 16 clock hours of training throughout the year.
Working Conditions
After‑school hours may vary by site, typically between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., with possible additional hours. Travel required: None. Working environment: Climate‑controlled office.
