Provides instruction to adult students enrolled in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Integrated Education Training (IET) courses. Provides learning experiences necessary so that students may meet learning outcomes, and works with the division administration and a team of colleagues working toward improving the student learning experience.

• Instructs students in a classroom, lab, learning center or other setting as appropriate. Teaches team-taught and contextualized ESOL courses to support Adult Basic Skills students enrolled in career-technical education certificate programs.
• Provides opportunities for student contact before or after class and through telephone or email exchanges or office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
• Collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments and programs to promote communication, coordinate instruction, curriculum and learning outcomes, and support student success.
• Prepares, distributes and utilizes contextualized instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate; incorporates the latest classroom technology into instructional activities.
• Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall career-technical education and ESOL program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students each course. Maintains and revises curriculum to maintain currency and aligns with state college and career readiness standards.
• Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates sensitivity to diversity in the workplace.
• Maintains classroom, laboratory, and departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate.
• Convenes classes on time and regularly as scheduled.
• Maintains attendance records on the portal for assigned students, assists with orientations, and facilitates standardized testing (pre and post).
• Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices.

• Attends in-service sessions and division meetings as required.
• Integrates computer literacy, goal-setting, and college and career readiness objectives into lessons.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) OR Master’s degree in adult education or related field OR Master’s degree in any related discipline with two (2) or more years of experience teaching ESOL at the adult basic skills level or higher.
• Experience teaching contextualized ESOL classes related to occupational training or career-technical education.
• Must attend Oregon Adult Learning Proficiency Standards (OALPS) training (as available) within 6 months of hire and participate in ongoing OALPS training throughout employment.
• Experience working with diverse backgrounds of the college’s community, students and employees; demonstrated commitment to promoting access and diversity.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students from a variety of ages, backgrounds, and learning differences
• Experience working with adult multilingual (English) language learners
• Experience teaching Integrated Education and Training (IET), VESL and/or I-BEST courses
• Experience developing contextualized standards-based curriculum
• Experience teaching non-credit Adult Basic Skill courses, including team-taught, co-taught, and support courses to support career-technical education certificate programs.
• Experience with using digital tools and applications to deliver instruction and supporting students in their development of digital skills.

Working Conditions and Important Information

This is an on-site position. Work is typically performed in a normal office environment and classroom setting.

Salary Placement

Initial salary placement for Instructional Load Credit (ILC) Instructors will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws. Initial salary placement for all other newly hired instructors will be at Level 1.
