Under close supervision, assists instructors with providing comprehensive educational, functional training, habilitation, and program services to individuals receiving services. Prepares instructional materials, maintains a safe and effective learning environment, monitors participant progress, and assists with daily activities, transportation, and community-based experiences.
Essential Functions
- Assists instructors in maintaining an effective and supportive learning environment.
- Provides direct instruction and support to individuals receiving services.
- Assists in implementing functional training and skill-building activities.
- Obtains, organizes, and prepares instructional materials and learning aids.
- Assists individuals with meeting and maintaining personal care and physical needs.
- Observes, monitors, and documents participant progress and behavior.
- Provides information and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and service planning activities.
- Assists with meal preparation, meal service, and feeding assistance when necessary.
- Supports leisure, recreational, and community integration activities.
- Safely operates agency vehicles to transport individuals to appointments, work sites, and community activities.
- Maintains required documentation and program records.
- Serves on assigned committees and participates in organizational activities.
- Promotes safety, dignity, independence, and person-centered services.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of state, local, and federal regulations affecting developmental disability services.
- Knowledge of personal hygiene, personal care, and daily living support practices.
- Knowledge of basic housekeeping and sanitation procedures.
- Ability to observe, monitor, and document participant behaviors and progress.

Required Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Must successfully pass all required pre-employment screenings, including criminal background checks, motor vehicle record reviews, and drug testing.
Upon appointment to the position, the employee assumes responsibility for meeting and maintaining all minimum qualification requirements, including applicable certifications, licenses, continuing education, competency validations, and mandatory annual or recurrent training. Failure to maintain such requirements may affect eligibility to perform assigned duties.

Work Environment
This position operates in a variety of office, program, instructional, and community settings. The role routinely uses standard office equipment including computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing systems, and related equipment. Travel between Gateway locations and community sites may be required.
Physical Demands
- Frequently walks, sits, stands, and kneels.
- Occasionally climbs, balances, bends, and stoops.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 15 pounds.
- Must have the ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Frequently utilizes fine hand-eye coordination, hearing, and visual acuity.
- Must be able to travel between Gateway sites and community locations.
