POSITION:

POSITION: Instructional Support Specialist

EMPLOYER: Mattawan Consolidated School

SUMMARY:

The Instructional Support Specialist is responsible for supporting student achievement within the MTSS process with special attention to reading, writing, and math. They provide targeted Tier II/III instruction to students who are struggling to maintain grade-level progress skills in core subject areas, standards of behavior, and social-emotional learning. Instructional support is conducted with individual or small groups of students. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance. This position is scheduled for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree, required
  • Teacher's Certification, required
  • Endorsements in reading/math, preferred
  • MA in education related field, highly preferred
  • Prior job-related experiences, paid or voluntary, with school-age children
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide intensive academic Tier II/III instruction to targeted individuals and/or small groups of students
  • Document student progress on individualized intervention goals
  • Collaborate and communicate with building-level teams: teachers and interventionists
  • Maintain professionalism and ethical practice when interacting with students, staff, and parents
  • Follow compliance standards related to school discipline and student confidentiality
  • Develop rapport and trust with students
  • Demonstrate high-leverage literacy instructional practices
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills with both staff and students
  • Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential student and parent information
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Participate in in-service education, conferences, or formal classes related to assignment
  • Show initiative when working with children or using materials
  • Willingness to learn, acquire, and apply new skills and knowledge
  • Adaptability and problem-solving
  • Other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, must be able to see and hear the entire classroom, and moving light furniture may be required.

SAFETY AND HEALTH:

Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS HANDLED:

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Hourly rate and work year per Mattawan Educational Support Association collective bargaining agreement.
