Primary Purpose

Provide guidance to students, teachers, campus administrators, or families within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), including diffusing disruptive student behavior and facilitating student refocus on classroom activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required
• Master’s degree in education or related field preferred

Special Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of laws, policies, and regulations related to MTSS, student discipline and behavioral interventions/modifications
• Ability to assist teachers, campus administrators, and parents/guardians in developing and implementing effective behavior intervention plans for students
• Ability to monitor and adjust intervention plans
• Strong organizational, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills

Experience

• Two years’ experience working with children required, preferably in an educational setting.
• Previous experience coaching or training adults preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist with the implementation, monitoring, and assessment of the campus multi-tiered system of support.
• Collaborate with campus administrators, teachers, and support staff to address factors impeding student compliance with schoolwide expectations.
• Provide targeted or individualized support to students demonstrating severely disruptive or unsafe behaviors in the classroom. As appropriate, assist in the development and monitoring of behavioral intervention plans.
• Facilitate the behavioral threat assessment process in collaboration with other designated staff. Recommend changes as needed.
• Facilitate staff training related to social-emotional learning, trauma-informed or restorative practices, de-escalation strategies, threat assessment, and other MTSS topics. As needed, model or demonstrate effective strategies in classrooms.
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as directed.
• Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal in alignment with MTSS guidelines and contributing to overall campus safety.
