Job summary

SCHOOLFIELD ELEMENTARY in Danville, Virginia, is seeking an Instructional Paraprofessional to assist in daily supervision and instruction of students under the supervision of the principal and supervising teacher.

Your role includes supporting teachers, supervising students in multiple settings, and helping implement academic standards while maintaining a safe, structured environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to work closely with teachers

• Completion of at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education or equivalent
• Attainment of an Associate degree, at a minimum; or
• Demonstration of knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal state or local academic assessment

Responsibilities

• Follow the directions of the teacher and/or principal
• Supervise students in instructional situations in the manner prescribed by the teacher and/or principal
• Consult with the teacher concerning academic expectations for individual students
• Become aware of the academic standards used in monitoring progress and implement those standards
• Use time efficiently in working with a group of students so that each child is helped as needed
• Use good judgment in interpreting a lesson and/or supporting teacher instruction in a group situation
• Assist the teacher and/or principal whenever possible in meeting the needs of each child
• Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, playgrounds, and at rest times in a safe, structured manner
• Consult with the teacher and/or principal concerning behavioral expectations for the children
• Observe the quality and style of teacher-prepared materials
• Correctly operate office machines
• Prepare materials efficiently
• Use time wisely so that materials are ready when needed
• Perform other duties as assigned
