Job summary

Kern Community College District is seeking a Laboratory Technician to assist in the operation and maintenance of an instructional laboratory. You will prepare solutions, assemble equipment, and support faculty and students with lab activities, ensuring accurate record-keeping and clean, safe work areas.

The role requires an associate degree with science coursework and some lab experience; you must be able to obtain a California driver's license.

Qualifications

Associate degree with course work in science, chemistry, physics or a related field and some laboratory experience.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

Assist in the operation and maintenance of an instructional laboratory.
Prepare various solutions for laboratory activities; assemble and install new equipment.
Maintain laboratory environment in a safe, clean and orderly condition; control hazardous waste materials.
Order, receive and store supplies, materials and equipment; maintain inventories.
Adjust, clean, maintain and perform minor repairs to equipment; report major repairs as needed.
Prepare and maintain records and reports including hazardous waste reports.
Train and provide work direction to students, workers and assigned staff.
Assist in the coordination of the use of laboratory facilities; assure the availability of supplies and equipment.
Operate equipment related to the assignment; participate in meetings and projects.
Perform related duties as assigned.
