Job summary

AGL Services Company is seeking an Instructional Designer II to apply instructional design and adult learning principles across analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of learning deliverables for Field Operations. Emphasis on OSHA, DOT, welding and regulatory training will guide course creation and updates.

The role requires creating instructor-led and computer-based trainings, design documents, scripts, and storyboards that align with business goals and regulatory

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Education, Communications, instructional design, adult learning or related discipline or 3 years of related or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years in adult learning, training content development or related area
  • 3-5 years of instructional design or adult learning theory
  • 3+ years researching, planning, developing, evaluating, and updating instructor-led and eLearning courses
  • Proficiency in instructional design software (Articulate 360, Vyond, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Experience with learning analytics and data gathering techniques
  • Experience creating learning assets such as design documents, scripts, leader’s guides, participant guides and handouts
  • Knowledge of ADDIE model
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • MS Office - intermediate proficiency
  • Exceptional written and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Creativity and detail orientation in instructional design
  • Self-starter and able to work in a team-based environment
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced setting
  • UX experience

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate instructional courses, assessments, job aids, and other learning deliverables
  • Create instructor-led and/or computer-based training deliverables for all phases of the course creation lifecycle
  • Develop design documents, scripts, storyboards, and final learning deliverables aligned to business goals
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources to meet department goals within budget and established timelines
  • Apply ADDIE and related learning theories to both ILT and eLearning materials
  • Develop microlearning, quizzes, simulations and engaging learning assets
  • Utilize graphics and visuals to support learning and UX principles
  • Maintain and update learning assets based on feedback and data
  • Possess LMS familiarity and ability to manage learning analytics

Job description

The Instructional Designer II (ID) applies instructional design and adult learning principles and strategies to analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate instructional courses, assessments, job aids, and other learning deliverables focused on the Field Operations Organization. Special emphasis is placed on OSHA, DOT, welding, joining and regulatory requirements training. The Instructional Designer creates instructor-led and/or computer-based training deliverables for all phases of the course creation lifecycle including analysis documents, design documents, storyboards, and final learning deliverables that align to the overall business goals.

Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
  • BA/BS degree in Business, Education, Communications, instructional design, adult learning or related discipline or 3 years of related or equivalent work experience

  • 3-5 years in adult learning, training content development or related area

Preferred:
  • Degree in Instructional Systems Design, Instructional Technology, Technical Writing, Organizational Leadership, Information & Instructional Design or Education
Related Work Experience:
Required:
  • 3-5 years of related experience in instructional design or adult learning theory

  • 3+ years of experience with developing instructor-led, self-paced, and e-learning courses using defined instructional design methodologies

  • 3+ years researching, planning, developing, evaluating, and updating instructor-led and eLearning courses

  • 3+ years of experience with learning analytics and data gathering techniques, developing strategies or solutions for learning needs, designing and developing innovative and engaging learning solutions, supporting implementation or launch of training programs, evaluating learning success, and incorporating improvements and revisions

  • Have solid understanding of the common learning theories such as ADDIE and their application to instructor led and eLearning materials

  • Previous experience in eLearning creation, such as building quizzes, simulations, editing video/audio and working within photo/video editing suites.

  • Previous experience with using graphics and visuals to supplement learning

  • UX experience

  • Knowledge of the natural gas or utility industry

  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, welding/joining and training

  • Experience developing learning assets such as design documents, scripts, presentation decks, leader’s guides, participant guides and handouts or job aids.

  • Experience in eLearning creation, such as building microlearning, quizzes, simulations

  • Proficiency in instructional design software (i.e.; Articulate 360 Suite, Vyond, Professional Adobe Creative Suite)

  • Experience collaborating with (internal resources, external resources, both) to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines
