Instructional Coach

General Purpose:

The Instructional Coach will provide instructional support and coaching to Libertas Academy Colleton teachers as they work to ensure that each student is able to reach his or her academic potential. The Instructional Coach’s primary role is to work with core content area (other content areas as needed) teachers and academic interventionists to support best practices in using data, provide analysis of school-wide trends in instruction, and make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need. As an advisor to teachers, academic interventionists, and the leadership team, the Instructional Coach is responsible for the following areas:

Main Job Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • a) observing instructional delivery, documenting, and providing feedback to enhance
  • and support the development of each teacher's content area
  • b) supporting teachers in the design of units and lessons for the development of their
  • c) analyzing data to modify curriculum and forms of assessment to meet students'
  • needs
  • d) working with the academic staff in the school to support sharing of best practices
  • e) participating in all matters related to the multi-tiered system of support (MTSS)
  • f) maintaining LAC’s coaching schedule in alignment with the LAC instructional coaching model and strategic plan
  • g) delivering and participating in school-wide and grade level professional development

The Instructional Coach must take a hands-on approach to improving instruction and effectiveness by working at various levels to directly improve instruction, student learning, and foster teacher development. This may include co-teaching and/or modeling lessons in classrooms, helping teacher groups plan instruction, and facilitating

The Instructional Coach is a full-time position.

Reporting

Reports to the School Director

Responsibilities

The Instructional Coach will work closely with teachers, administrators, and the instructional team to strategically create and implement a plan to increase student achievement in all content areas as evidenced by data.

  • S/he will play an integral role in the efforts to align CKLA, Eureka Math and Science curriculum and oversee academic progress monitoring throughout the school (other content area curriculum as needed)
  • S/he will work collaboratively with the school personnel to advise teachers on developing instructional strategies and intervention programs for students across learning levels
  • Support the development of high-quality/effective instruction in grades K-6, observe and coach developing teachers to improve instructional planning, teaching practice, and the use of data, assessment, and instructional technology.
  • Work with the instructional team and teachers to refine and develop common standards-based pacing plans, mid-year, and end of year common assessments for each grade level.
  • Work to facilitate analysis of data provided by diagnostics, common assessments, and formative assessments.
  • Work with school administrators to develop policies and school structures that facilitate the improvement of instruction and the appropriate interventions and supports for students.
  • Support and deliver guidance on instruction using research-based learning techniques and the transition to the South Carolina state learning standards.
  • Continuously monitor, track, and analyze student achievement data to identify needed supports and strategies.
Required Qualifications
  • South Carolina Teaching Credential
  • Experience working with adult learners, coaching teachers, and delivering professional development, assisting, developing, and evaluating professional teaching (ADEPT) certification
  • At least three years of teaching experience in a K-12 school setting
  • Experience working with adult learners, coaching teachers, and delivering
  • A deep understanding of theories of literacy, including the diagnostic teaching of reading and reading intervention
  • An understanding of the South Carolina standards, current trends and best practices in curriculum design and instruction.
  • Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent and understanding.
  • Experience in analyzing data and using results to modify curricula.
  • Commitment to the LAC mission and willingness to serve the LAC community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education or related field
