Job summary

District Wide in College Station, TX is seeking an Instructional Assistant for SpEd Adaptive Behavior (Grades EC-4) to support classroom programs and behavior management under the supervision of a certified teacher. The role is non-exempt, with 187 workdays and pay grade Paraprofessional PG 3, offering hourly compensation.

Starting immediately, the position reports to the principal and assigned teachers, with duties including crisis intervention training and close collaboration to implement IEP

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher in maintaining a safe, secure, learning environment.
  • Assist teacher in implementation of behavior intervention plan and IEP goals.
  • Help manage behavior of students, including crisis interventions and restraining disruptive or dangerous behavior as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special needs.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development and meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Primary Purpose:

Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs including behavior management, crisis intervention, and instructional programs. Works under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work with children with disabilities

  • Required participation in district provided crisis intervention training
  • Required participation in district provided behavior management training

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist teacher in maintaining a safe, secure, learning environment.

  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

May occasionally be exposed to biohazardous waste, bacteria and communicable diseases. Occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include close vision; and color vision, regularly work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress; the noise level is usually moderate. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
