JOB TITLE: Instructional Assistant - Adult Education

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, part-time, hourly employee.

WORK DAYS: Monday-Thursday.

STANDARD HOURS PER DAY: 6 hours per day; 8:30 AM -2:30 PM

WORK YEAR: Scheduled to work all days when students are scheduled to attend school.

SALARY SCHEDULE & BENEFITS: Paid on the "Instructional Assistants" salary schedule, Level 4, and is not eligible for benefits.

REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education.

SUPERVISES: N/A

General Summary Of Duties

Under direct supervision, the Instructional Assistant provides administrative and student support in an adult education environment, performing paraprofessional work to assist prospective students, current students, instructors, and program staff. The Instructional Assistant serves as a primary point of contact for Adult Education by assisting students with enrollment, registration, testing, and program navigation while maintaining accurate student records and entering required information into state and district data management systems. The Instructional Assistant provides excellent customer service and supports the efficient operation of Adult Education programs.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for prospective students, current students, and community members by providing exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming, professional, and student-centered environment.
  • Assists individuals with enrollment into Adult Education classes, career training programs, High School Equivalency testing, Test of Adult Basic Education testing, and other program services.
  • Provides information regarding Adult Education programs, answers questions, conducts facility tours, and assists students in navigating enrollment requirements and available resources.
  • Maintains accurate student records by entering enrollment, attendance, assessment, testing, and other required information into state and district data management systems.
  • Performs administrative support duties including answering phones, responding to emails, scheduling appointments, preparing documents, processing forms, and maintaining confidential student records.
  • Assists students, instructors, and program staff by coordinating student communications, preparing instructional and testing materials, and ensuring students have the resources needed for successful participation.
  • Assists in collecting, organizing, verifying, and maintaining program data and documentation while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with district and state requirements.
  • Resolves routine student concerns and provides timely, accurate, and courteous assistance while referring complex issues to appropriate staff members.
  • Maintains proficiency in current district-approved technology, software, and data systems.
  • Ensures all maintained data and records are accurate, complete, and updated in a timely manner.

Entry-level Requirements
  • EDUCATION & TRAINING:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • An Associates degree, at least sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited institution of higher education, or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment is preferred/required to meet ESSA standards. (Official transcripts or test scores required to validate education.)
  • EXPERIENCE:
    • Prior work experience within an educational or school setting is preferred.
  • CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
    • Must meet paraprofessional requirements as outlined in ESSA.
    • Must successfully pass the required Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded Child Protection Index Check.
  • OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Ability to perform essential job functions, meet performance aptitudes, and fulfill physical/sensory/environmental demands (with or without reasonable accommodation).

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Physical Demands: Tasks involve exerting light-to-moderate physical effort, typically involving standing, walking, and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects weighing 1020 pounds.

Sensory Demands: Most tasks require visual perception/discrimination, oral communication, and auditory perception.

Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed in a standard office/classroom environment without adverse environmental conditions.
