Summary
Under direct supervision, the incumbent provides assistance to teachers by supplying materials, working with students on projects, demonstrating techniques, communicating with parents, inputting lesson plans, photocopying, and preparing classrooms. The incumbent also monitors students on the playground and cafeteria.
Essential Functions
- Work with students individually or in groups on special projects or assignments, including spelling, reading, mathematics, comprehension levels and memorization of emergency information; demonstrate skills and techniques to aid student learning; monitor behavior and enforce school and classroom standards.
- Monitor students and ensure safety on the playground and cafeteria before school, during breakfast and lunch, and during recess; report incidents or injuries to school administration; accompany students to other areas to ensure orderly behavior.
- Maintain discipline by monitoring behavior, issuing warnings, writing formal notices; prepare incident documents; monitor student progress in reading and/or mathematics.
- Copy and prepare educational materials.
- Prepare classrooms for activities, set up tables and chairs, distribute materials; clean up after activities.
- Communicate with parents regarding progress and concerns; interpret communications between teachers and parents.
- Assist teachers in planning and coordinating lesson plans by sharing ideas and providing feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) prior to being hired; completion of 60 college credit hours; Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution; or successfully passed an Arizona State approved paraprofessional test (offered by WESD at no cost and must be passed prior to hire).
- Six months of experience working with children in a learning environment or related experience.
- Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
- Must receive CPR certification within thirty days of hire date (for Title I Schools).
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in English and a target language.
- Valid CPR certificate.
