Job summary

Sun Prairie is seeking a part-time Library Media Instructional Assistant to support students, teachers, and staff in the Meadow View Elementary Library Media Center. You will assist with circulation, shelving, and materials access, while helping students use the online catalog.

You will work under the Library Media Specialist, promoting a welcoming environment and providing basic technology support. Requires some college credits and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education or an associate degree (or higher) is required.
  • Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Library Media Specialist in the operation of the LMC with a collaborative spirit.
  • Promotes a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students and staff.
  • Provides circulation desk support; checks in/out books and materials.
  • Helps process, circulate, repair, and shelve books.
  • Learns and uses the library online catalog and other library software.
  • Assists students in locating learning materials and using the online catalog.
  • Monitors and supervises students in the LMC, reinforcing expectations.
  • Stays current with technology and provides basic tech support.

STARTING WAGE: $19.60 per hour

This position is part time 18.75 hours per week.

The Library Media Instructional Assistant upholds this mission while providing services integral to the overall use of the Library Media Center (LMC). This position provides assistance to students, teachers, administrators, volunteers and parents and works directly with individuals and groups of students in activities coordinated by the Library Media Specialist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Assists the Library Media Specialist in the overall operation of the LMC with a spirit for collaboration

  • Ability to learn and understand library online catalog system and other software programs used within the library
  • Assists students with locating learning materials and provides support in using online catalog
  • Monitors and supervises students in the LMC, reinforcing Library and building expectations for students
  • Remains current with technology
  • Provides assistance to students and staff with basic technology support and troubleshooting
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Must meet the following NCLB standards for this position. (1) Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education, (2) obtained an associate's degree (or higher) or (3) be able to demonstrate through a formal assessment, the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics. Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software. Must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
