A public high school in Molalla, Oregon is seeking an Instructional Assistant for English Learners. This role involves supporting non-English-speaking students, administering assessments, and collaborating with teachers to enhance educational outcomes. Instructional Assistant EL- English Learner Limited Duration/ 6 Hours Per Day/ 5 Days per week/Approx. 178 days in full work year Anticipated Start Date: August 2023 Anticipated End Date: June 14, 2024 This position requires the applicant to have completed two years of study at an institution of higher education, or obtained an Associate’s (or higher) degree or passed a Paraprofessional Assessment. Position serves Rural Dell Elementary and Clarkes Elementary. Itinerant Schedule. Posted wages based on 2022-2023 wage schedule. 2023-2024 wage schedule to be determined. JOB GOAL: The goal of the EL Instructional Assistant is to assist in the instruction of limited/non-English-speaking students; administer assessments; and serve as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with non-English speaking persons. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must: Have prior successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. Be able to work and multitask in an environment with frequent interruptions and priorities. Be able to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated. Be able to remain calm, focused and in control when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may also be assigned. Administer assessments, homework, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on the understanding of the individual student’s needs, interests and abilities. Consult with teacher/s, counselor and/or administrator as may be required (e.g., selecting materials to be used, implementing lesson plans, addressing concerns related to students, special information, special learning needs cultural appreciation, etc.) for the purpose receiving and/or conveying information regarding students’ activities and progress. Implement instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the ESL and classroom teacher in improving students’ academic success through a defined course of study. Instruct students individually or in groups with lesson assignments (e.g., planning daily activities/lessons, modifying lessons, listening to students read, tutoring, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts. Maintain various records (e.g., forms, student profile cards, lesson plans, attendance records, etc.) for the purpose of providing up to date reference and in compliance with ESL program requirements. Monitor individual and/or groups of students in various activities (e.g., classroom, library, playground activities, field trips, lunch room, assemblies, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g., maintaining student records, scheduling, copying lesson materials, operating office equipment, answering telephones, ordering materials etc.) for the purpose of supporting the ESL teacher and/or administrator in providing necessary records/materials. Work collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of students in the school setting. Provide limited first aid when necessary. Assess injury to determine whether nursing care is needed. Maintain knowledge of students that may have medical concerns to remain aware of potentially dangerous situations for their individual condition. Exercise discretion and assure protection of student confidentiality consistent with the direction and guidance of staff, administrators, and school/district policies and procedures when communicating with students, parents, community members and other staff members. Provide instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations. Document behaviors and progress of students to assist teacher in assessing progress with education plans. Maintain or assist in maintaining student weekly progress reports. May provide instructional assistant duties in a large classroom setting (e.g., 30 students) which includes responsibility for student management. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED: Possess and maintain a valid First Aid card if required Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance. Molalla River School District requires all staff to be fully vaccinated effective October 18, 2021 unless a religious or medical exception is approved.
