Job description

Essential Job Functions (may Include Any Of The Following)

Bay Lane Elementary Instructional Assistants support special education teachers in instructional activities and supervision of students in a structured (regular education classes) and unstructured (lunchroom, playground, field trips, bus) environment. May assist in behavior management strategies and supports. May assist with self-help skills (toilet needs, personal hygiene, feeding, GI tube feeding, dressing, etc.), or health care procedures (charting and dispensation of medications, tube feeding, suctioning, etc.). May work with wheelchair or ambulatory students in small groups or on an individual basis, and may be required to lift or restrain students weighing up to 80 pounds. Other duties as assigned by the administrator or the classroom teacher.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk a minimum of 2 miles per day.
  • Ability to bend, stand, and stoop multiple times per day.
  • Ability to place students weighing up to 80 pounds in Crisis Prevention Intervention approved protective holds as defined by Act 125.
  • Ability to maneuver students weighing up to 80 pounds in wheeled mobility equipment (wheelchair, stroller, etc).
  • Ability to position or support an assisted transfer of a student weighing up to 80 pounds.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Dependable driving and work record a must.
  • Positive and friendly work attitude.
  • Must have DPI Spec. Ed. Program Aide certification or be willing to become certified.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Be knowledgeable and physically capable of lifting/restraining students weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to get along and communicate well with staff, students, and parents.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use computer equipment and other assistive technology devices.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
