The Board of Education of Charles County is seeking a Special Education Instructional Assistant for the ACHIEVE program in Waldorf, MD. This 10-month, non-exempt position supports instructional delivery and classroom activities under the supervision of licensed teachers.
Applicants should have a high school diploma and experience with children. The role includes assisting with lessons, reinforcing learning for small groups, and attending to students’ needs throughout the school day.

The A.C.H.I.E.V.E. Program is a regional program in Charles County that provides instruction in both academic and adaptive skills. Scaffolded instruction in grade-level content is provided utilizing alternate academic achievement standards and the alternate state assessments. Students participating in the alternate academic achievement standards and/or assessments are progressing toward a Maryland Certificate of Program Completion. Eligibility is determined through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process.
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
