Job summary

Global Village Academy seeks an Instructional Assistant to provide academic and behavioral support to students in small groups or one-on-one settings. You will assist in lesson delivery, monitor progress, and help teachers manage the classroom.

Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, supervising during lunch and field trips, and assisting with assessments. Bilingual translation support may be required to facilitate communication with families and students.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience with school-aged children in educational or childcare setting preferred.
• Experience providing supervision and academic support to students preferred.

Summary

Under the direction of a licensed administrator, the Instructional Assistant provides academic and behavioral support to students in small groups, one-on-one settings, or classroom environments. Responsibilities include assisting in lesson delivery, monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate records, and supporting teachers in classroom management. This role may also involve supervising students in non-classroom settings, assisting with test administration, and preparing instructional materials. In some cases, Instructional Assistants may provide translation or verbal communication support using second language skills.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Provide support to students through small group or one-on-one instruction, reinforcing skills and concepts introduced in the classroom.
• Monitor, record, and update student progress, including academic performance, attendance, and behavioral data, using appropriate school systems.
• Assist classroom teachers in planning and presenting lessons to supplement student learning.
• Prepare instructional materials and classroom resources as needed.
• Supervise students during non-classroom activities such as lunch, recess, and field trips.
• Support in the administration of standardized and classroom assessments.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) when applicable.
• Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and supportive learning environment.
• Attend job-related training, meetings, and professional development sessions as required.
• Support parent and community volunteer activities when applicable.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
• Bachelor's degree (Preferred)
• Experience working with school-aged children in an educational or childcare setting (Preferred)
• Experience providing supervision and academic support to students (Preferred)

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and learning needs.
• Proficiency in organizational management, problem-solving, and multitasking.
• Demonstrated adaptability, patience, and flexibility in responding to student and classroom needs.
• Ability to follow directions and collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, and staff.
• Competence in using basic computer programs, word processing software, and office equipment.
• Bilingual fluency (if applicable) for translation and communication support.

Additional Requirements

• Successful completion of a criminal background check.
• Compliance with all district policies and procedures.

Preferred Competencies

• Familiarity with classroom management techniques and instructional strategies.
• Experience supporting students with special needs, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.
• Knowledge of school safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Work Environment

• School-based setting with regular interaction with students, staff, and families.
