Upper Lake Unified School District in Upper Lake, CA seeks an Instructional Aide II (ESN) to support certificated staff with students’ academic, behavioral, physical, and social-emotional needs. The role includes direct student support, classroom assistance, testing, MTSS, and occasional driving for transportation of students.

The successful candidate will hold a high school diploma (or equivalent), have clerical/computer experience, and may possess an AA or paraeducator certification.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • Associate of Arts degree or passage of the paraeducator exam.
  • Some clerical experience with knowledge of computers and related programs.
  • Experience in a preschool through age 22 in a special education setting is preferred.
  • Specialized certification related to supporting student needs preferred.
  • Clean and clear driving record and valid California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the safety and welfare of students during and in between classroom activities and assist students in a variety of school environments (e.g. restrooms, playground, locker room, library, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing the severity of harmful incidents and to maintain a safe and secure school environment.
  • Support all school-related activities within the classroom, school site, and other areas as needed (e.g. student transportation, food service support, online learning).
  • Support student attendance, truancy reduction, and adverse behavior mitigation before, during, and after school.
  • Provide student first aid treatment in accordance with currently acceptable first aid practices.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, trainings, and conferences as directed.
  • Participate in specialized training related to student needs.
  • Assist with specialized testing (e.g. vision, hearing, state testing, and other specialized testing).
  • Assist in classroom and school site(s) settings as an instructional aide for students with general, special needs, and alternative education students.
  • Assist certificated staff with monitoring student progress (e.g. attendance, work completion, progress monitoring, grading, etc.).
  • Conduct student assessments for teacher review.
  • Assist in before and after school district programs including Extended School Year Opportunities.
  • At the direction of the certificated staff, document information necessary for student, classroom, and teacher support.
  • Provide in-classroom and technology support as needed for students in and out of the classroom.
  • Support students or groups of students while under the direct supervision of certificated staff.
  • Work with Tier II and Tier III students on restorative practices.
  • Support students' specific needs with learning, behavior, development, and social/emotional skills.
  • Assist with targeted MTSS work to assist the district and school site with restorative practices.
  • Assist with student safety during lunch, passing periods, and individual needs.
  • Assist with student transitions on and between campuses.
  • Assist with office clerical duties as directed.
  • Support teacher's instructional practices with one-on-one and small student groups.
  • Supporting students with specialized physical impairment(s), medical devices, bodily fluid needs, toileting, diapering, feeding and other related needs, while adhering to proper safety procedures and best practices.
  • Willingness to train in the area of supporting Extensive Support Needs Students.
  • Work as a driver when required, transporting general education students as well as those in the Extensive Support Needs program.
  • All staff in this position will be required to participate in 24 hours of job-related training per year, in addition to their regular work schedule.

Instructional Aide II - Driver

General Description

Under the general supervision of the site administrator or designee(s), the duties of the Instructional Aide are to complete advanced tasks to support certificated staff with student(s) academic, behavioral, physical, and social/emotional needs.

Work Hours and Location

Employees are hired for a set number of hours as listed in the advertised position. The start and end times of the employee's shift and campus/department assignment are subject to involuntary change based on the needs of the District and its programmatic needs, per Section 14.4 of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement with CSEA Chapter #427.
