Job summary

Baker Group in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a pre-apprentice to support site operations under journeyman supervision. Responsibilities include safe material handling, setup, staging, and clean-up.

You will deliver tools, restock supplies, and help maintain clean work areas. Reading a tape measure and basic math are required. A high school diploma or GED is expected.

Job description

PURPOSE

Typical assignments of pre-apprentices may include, but are not limited to, material handling, loading and unloading, set-up, staging, clean-up and site organization. These tasks must be performed under the direct supervision of a journeyman. Additionally, a pre-apprentice may perform entry-level work with or without hand tools at the direction of his or her supervising journeyman. Pre-apprentices are traditionally not permitted to operate heavy equipment, welders, or work on energized electrical work or perform layout or design services. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Education & Experience Required To Perform Essential Functions

• High school graduate or GED
• Trade related math
• Ability to read a tape measure

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Valid driver’s license with good driving record
• Must be willing to sign up as an entry level helper with one of our union affiliates
• Successful passing of drug test and background investigation as a contingency for employment

• Ability to work at heights (on scaffolds, lifts, ladders, on the edge of a roof, etc.)
• Ability to work in confined spaces (ex: inside tanks or vaults)
