Job summary

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is hiring an HVAC Helper in Beltsville, MD. You will support the Installer/Lead Installer in installing residential HVAC equipment, ducts and related accessories, maintaining clean work sites and accurate paperwork.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of heating, cooling and ventilation equipment and related accessories.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate or learn HVAC tools and equipment.
• Effective communication with customers to provide excellent service.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and on-call shifts.
• Ability to access attics, basements and crawl spaces and to lift up to 75 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist Installer/Lead Installer with installation of HVAC equipment and accessories in customers’ homes.
• Assist with installation of ducts and duct fittings per manufacturer specs.
• Deliver high levels of customer satisfaction through professional service.
• Help with delivery and removal of equipment needed for installations.
• Maintain company property, vehicles and tools in good condition and properly accounted for.
• Complete paperwork neatly and timely with accurate details.

About the Role

Assists the Installer or Lead Installer in the installation of residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories. Work is performed under direct supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Works under direct supervision of the Installer or Lead Installer to install HVAC equipment and accessories in the customer’s home
• Assists with the installation of heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment, as well as accessories, in accordance with company requirements and manufacturer specifications
• Assists in the installation of ducts and duct fittings
• Performs duties so as to deliver of excellent customer service and sustain high levels of customer satisfaction
• Assists in the delivery and removal of equipment needed to complete the installation work
• Assists the Installer or Lead Installer in ensuring company property, vehicles, and tools are being properly used, maintained, and properly accounted for
• As needed or required, completes all paperwork in a neat, accurate, thorough, and timely manner
• Represents the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters and concerns
• Responsible with the Installer for keeping installation vehicle clean and neat both inside and outside in keeping with the company’s professional image
• Performs similar/other duties as needed or assigned
• Regular, reliable attendance

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with additional training and 0 to 2 years’ experience in HVAC with technical training certification preferred
• Must possess all valid licensing or certification as required by federal, state, provincial, or local governmental laws or regulations for the geographical work area EPA and safety certifications required
• Basic knowledge of the fundamentals of the operational functionality of heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment as well as related accessories
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate, or learn to operate, all necessary tools and equipment
• Basic skills in reading wiring diagrams
• Effective communication skills to communicate with customer and to provide excellent customer service
• Effective and efficient time-management and organizational skills
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Available to work flexible hours and on‑call shifts as needed
• Ability to stand and walk and to climb ladders and attic stairs and to maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces to access HVAC units.
• Ability to continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
• Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including but not limited to the following: hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, dry, humid, slippery surfaces, heights, and congested areas
• Ability to safely climb 300lb load capacity rated ladders with a 30lb tool belt
• Natural or corrected vision to see and focus for close, distance, peripheral vision with normal depth perception
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
