Job summary

Builders FirstSource in Utah seeks an Installer to safely and accurately install exterior building products such as decks, stairs and railing systems on residential projects. You will read blueprints, measure materials, use hand and power tools, and ensure compliance with local codes and safety standards while maintaining a clean, organized site.

Qualifications

  • Able to read blueprints and measurements accurately.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for carpentry tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Loads/unloads materials and prepares job site.
  • Installs decks, stairs, landings and railing as specified.
  • Verifies trueness of structures and reads blueprints or sketches.
  • Operates hand and power tools; measures, cuts and fits components.
  • Maintains clean, organized work areas and adheres to safety rules.

Installer

Ignite your career at Builders FirstSource, America’s largest supplier of building materials. As an installer, you will perform safe and accurate installation of exterior building products such as decks, garage landings, stairs, and railing systems.

Purpose

The installer ensures every installation meets company quality standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable building codes while delivering exceptional customer service.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Loads and unloads materials from truck onto work site.
  • Cuts product to specified size, as needed.
  • Installs parts in specified relationship to each other.
  • Verifies trueness of structure.
  • Stays knowledgeable of OSHA regulations, and applies safety requirements in daily work (e.g. wearing hard hats, steel toe work boots, fall prevention requirements, etc.)
  • Operates a company vehicle and trailer to transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites as assigned.
  • Constructs, erects, and repairs wooden structures for decks, garage landings, stairs and railing; reads blueprints or sketches or from verbal instructions.
  • Understands local building codes to ensure that structures comply with structural, safety and other regulatory requirements.
  • Operates hand tools and power tools to saw to size, nail, shim, fit and finish wooden construction.
  • Keeps work area neat and orderly; ensures that premises are cleaned and debris is appropriately disposed at the end of the work shift.
  • Plans and paces own work efficiency in order to meet daily, weekly, project, or team related production goals.
  • Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two (2) years of carpentry experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) in accordance with company policy.
Competencies
  • Ability to use hand and power tools required for carpentry tasks
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints or design documents
  • Manual dexterity
  • Knowledge of safety procedures while performing carpentry tasks
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Knowledge of basic math, angles and use of measuring tools
  • Valid driver’s license
Work Environment / Physical Activity
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is routinely required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • The employee is required to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to bring objects into sharp focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to outdoor weather conditions, and occasionally required to work in high places and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Work is performed within a construction environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, equipment noise and dust.
  • May be required to perform specific tasks that involve climbing, lifting, pushing, crawling, stooping or kneeling.
