Mobile Communications America, Inc. is seeking a Vehicle Installer in the Birmingham, AL area. This full-time role supports our Voice (MSS) division with wiring, antenna, and equipment installations across various vehicle types.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of technical experience, basic ability to read diagrams, and hands-on skills with wiring, testing, and safe work habits. Travel may be required and PPE is used as needed.

Qualifications

• 2 years of technical experience or a combination of related education/experience.
• Experience installing vehicle systems such as 2-way radios, controls, cameras, GPS, sirens.
• Ability to read electrical diagrams and test electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Connect electrical fittings, drill holes, solder, and modify vehicles for emergency equipment.
• Install wiring, antenna systems, routing data and power cabling.
• Disassemble/reassemble trim and interiors to route wiring and install equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues as needed.
• Complete installations for diverse vehicle makes and models.
• Maintain a safe, clean work environment and document work performed.
• Learn new products and techniques from colleagues and manufacturers.
• Complete paperwork and maintain confidentiality of service information.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

• Connecting electrical fittings, drilling holes, soldering, and performing all physical tasks associated with modifying vehicles for the acceptance of emergency-related equipment.
• Installing electrical wiring, antenna systems, route antenna, data, and power cabling, and applying a variety of electrical connectors.
• Disassembling and reassembling trim, seats, lights, headliners, and carpets in motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and/or any other type of equipment to properly route wiring and install equipment.
• Troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with equipment as necessary.
• Completing installations for a diverse range of vehicle makes and models, including sedans, SUVs, commercial trucks, buses, motorcycles, and ATVs.
• Maintaining a safe and clean environment, including the orderliness of tools.
• Learning new products, skills techniques from colleagues and manufacturers.
• Completing all required paperwork and documentation.
• Maintaining customer confidence by keeping service information confidential.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM:

• 2 years of technical experience, or a combination of related education/experience.
• Basic knowledge and experience with the installation of systems/equipment within various vehicle types, such as 2-way radios, controls, lighting, cameras, antennas, GPS, sirens, and other relevant devices/public safety equipment
• Knowledge/ability to read electrical diagrams and install.
• Basic ability to test/troubleshoot electrical and system issues.
• Ability to assemble/disassemble, properly route wiring, connect electrical fittings, install wiring harnesses, drill holes, solder, and perform the physical tasks associated with the vehicle upfits and installations.
• Basic understanding of wire gauges and fuses based on DC current demand.
• Ability to use basic tools and test equipment, including hand tools, power drillers, multi-meters, and watt meters.

YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical environment requires the employee to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; utilize personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to potentially hazardous materials, lift (overhead, waist level) from the floor, bending, frequently utilize near vision use for reading and computer use; be able to handle semi-frequent stressful conditions (cardiovascular), frequently work in outdoor weather conditions, frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, operate a motor vehicle, frequently position self to maintain computers or other equipment as needed.

On-call for critical systems maintenance may be required. First shift hours Monday – Friday, with occasional 2nd or 3rd shift and weekends depending on project schedules.
