Job summary

AVI-SPL, Inc. is seeking an Installation Technician 2 to perform AV system installations, cabling, and rack fabrication on contracted projects. You will lead Level 1 Technicians, read schematics, and coordinate with the Project Manager to meet scope, schedule, and safety standards.

You will install, test, and troubleshoot AV equipment while ensuring high quality and customer satisfaction. Travel to multiple sites is required, and a strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication with clients, colleagues, and vendors.
  • 2–4 years of audiovisual installation experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to lead small project site teams and coordinate on-site work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation tasks per project scope and directives.
  • Lead Level 1 Technicians and oversee quality of work.
  • Read and interpret schematics and blueprints.
  • Use hand and power tools to install and terminate AV cabling.
  • Test point-to-point cabling and system functionality.
  • Track and secure all equipment and tools on site.
  • Communicate daily site status to the Project Manager.
  • Travel to various job sites as required.

Job description

The Installation Technician 2 will perform installation tasks for AVI‑SPL contracted projects, including cable pulls, cable terminations, system equipment and components, rack fabrication, wiring, layout for equipment, and metal fabrication. This role may also involve leading and directing installation crews on less complex projects, coordinating with the Project Manager, and ensuring projects meet time, scope, budget, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction requirements.

DAY‑TO‑DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform installation tasks and client training as per project scope and directives.
  • Demonstrate job‑site leadership and oversee Level 1 Technicians’ quality of work.
  • Read and interpret project system schematics and architectural/construction blueprints.
  • Use hand and power tools to solder, crimp connectors, and perform other AV system installation tasks.
  • Test point‑to‑point cabling and system functionality.
  • Track, manage, and secure all associated equipment and tools on the job site.
  • Work with office staff to initiate return‑material authorizations as needed.
  • Communicate daily job‑site status to the Project Manager.
  • Act as customer liaison on site per project scope and directives, directing on‑site change requests to the Project Manager for confirmation.
  • Coordinate with other trades on site.
  • Travel to various job sites as required.
  • Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and projects as needed to support the team and organization.

  • The position will generally be performed on customer sites and may involve construction‑site type work environments.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
MUST‑HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with clients, colleagues, and vendors.
  • Intermediate understanding of audio‑visual systems, including projectors, screens, speakers, microphones, video‑conferencing equipment, digital signage, and control systems.
  • Intermediate proficiency in installing, terminating, and troubleshooting low‑voltage cabling (e.g., HDMI, CAT5e/6, fiber optic) and experience with conduit runs, cable trays, and other wiring methods.
  • Intermediate ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues with audiovisual equipment and systems.
  • Intermediate understanding of network infrastructure and how it integrates with audiovisual systems.
  • Ability to lead small‑project site teams.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Intermediate knowledge of required test equipment and industry installation safety codes and standards.
  • Ability to advise Project Manager on installation‑related concepts affecting planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Ability to advise Project Engineer on complex technical issues.
  • Ability to assist Programmer in loading and testing code on site.
  • Valid driver’s license and a motor‑vehicle record meeting AVI‑SPL driving‑privilege standards.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of audiovisual installation experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Employees operating company or personal vehicles for business must be legally authorized to drive, possess a valid driver’s license, and provide proof of coverage that meets minimum insurance requirements.
  • Employees driving fleet vehicles must meet eligibility requirements, comply with all guidelines, including telematics monitoring, vehicle maintenance schedules, and proper use of fuel and toll devices.
NICE‑TO‑HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Formal education in Audio‑Visual, Electronics, or related field preferred.
  • External training and certifications (e.g., AVIXA CTS General Certification, manufacturer training, OSHA 30‑Hour Construction Course, required formal clearances).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequent standing, walking, and physical activity.
  • Regular bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Climbing, overhead work, and work at heights.
  • Use of tools and equipment as required.
  • Frequently lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Heavier lifting may require assistance or mechanical support.
  • Work in warehouse, field, or construction environments.
