Job summary

Dedicated Fleet Services in Chillicothe is seeking an Installation Technician to install specialized components on Class 8 trucks. Responsibilities

  • Install specialized equipment and modifications onto medium and heavy duty trucks per customer specs.
  • Perform pre-delivery inspections and lay out new upfits for new customers.
  • Coordinate with parts to obtain needed items and document installations clearly.
  • Conduct road tests to verify repairs and isolate problems as needed.
  • Maintain safe, clean work area and support other technicians as required.

Summary

The Installation Technician is responsible for installing specialized components and systems on new Class 8 trucks. This role involves precise mechanical and electrical work, including mounting, wiring, and configuring aftermarket or OEM equipment such as lighting systems, safety devices, brackets, and structural assemblies. Technicians may also perform light fabrication and welding tasks to ensure secure and compliant installations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards
  • Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified
  • Writes up on the repair order an accurate, clear, and detailed description of installations or inspections completed
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
  • Prioritize workflow through effective communication with management staff
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
Duties
  • Install specialized equipment and modifications onto medium and heavy duty trucks according to customer specifications
  • Perform pre delivery inspections
  • Lay out new upfits for new customers
  • Obtain supervisor permission to complete diagnosed repairs and/or add additional repairs to a repair order
  • Communicate with parts department personnel to obtain or order the parts necessary to repair vehicles
  • Perform road test on customer vehicles to assist in problem isolation or to verify repair procedure
  • Track and charge clocked hours to the proper corresponding repair order operation
  • Writes up on the repair order an accurate, clear, and detailed description of installations or inspections completed
  • Interact with customers in a professional and positive manner
  • Assist other technicians with installation procedures as needed
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Formal technical training degree, certificate or diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Personal tool inventory to allow for the completion of job duties and assignments
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to weld is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to read and interpret shop repair order forms, repair manuals, electrical schematics, and various other technical bulletins
  • Ability to use computer keyboard and Windows basics
Work Environment, Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop and lift/move up to 50 lbs on a regular basis and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to work in an environment that includes 8-12 hour days, overtime hours as needed, with frequent exposure to weather conditions, vehicle and tool noise, and hazardous materials including fuel, oil, grease, and cleaning solutions, dust from sanding and possible paint fumes
