Job description

Overview

CSI is looking to hire an Installation Services Project Estimator with strong organization and people skills. You will be responsible for developing estimates and quotations for food process piping projects. This includes understanding scope and design, and providing assistance and support for our project managers and field installation crews. You will provide quotes and proposal packages for installations, equipment, and systems to CSI customers. Ongoing support for internal and external customers — including answering questions, providing feedback, and following up to ensure satisfaction — will be a large aspect of this role.

As a Project Estimator at CSI, you will play a vital role in securing future work for the company and ensuring successful project execution. You will produce insightful information that enables our project management team and skilled craftsmen to deliver quality systems to our customers, achieving or even beating schedule and cost targets. Your primary responsibility is to accurately estimate the cost of materials and labor required to install process piping in a food processing environment. This is done through reviewing, interpreting, and understanding plans, specifications, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and other relevant documents to determine the scope of work of the project. Other responsibilities may include assisting project managers with bills of materials, budgeting, and sequencing work activities for both potential and awarded projects. You will need the ability to manage multiple projects at once, while ensuring timely and accurate execution. Additionally, you will visit customer facilities to assist in determining precise cost estimates for total project values and any necessary change orders.

An effective Installation Services Project Estimator must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and possess excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills for corresponding with co-workers as well as external customers and vendors.

Responsibilities
  • Develop cost estimates for process piping and utility piping installation projects, including costs for equipment, materials, pipe joining methods, rigging and equipment setting, pipe racks, subcontractor scopes of work, craftsmen labor, rental equipment, and expenses.
  • Present cost estimates to project managers, engineers, executive management and other relevant parties, explaining the methodology and assumptions used.
  • Review cost estimates from internal and external sources and perform Make-Buy analyses for procurement of these materials/equipment.
  • Work with CSI’s standard cost estimating systems and suggest new estimating technologies when appropriate.
  • Assist project managers with the creation of quotes or proposals to customers (Installation, Equipment, or Systems).
  • Respond to customer requests for information.
  • Partner with the Fabrication Team to develop cost estimates on items fabricated in-house.
  • Collaborate with project management staff on timely cost estimation and submission of project change orders.
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules, regulations and procedures trained and/or implemented by CSI staff.
  • Generate line layouts for cost estimating and planning purposes.
  • Create bills of materials for project work to estimate and procure materials.
  • Generate Request-for-Quote submittal packages, review quotes, and select subcontractors based on total project value.
  • Engage with Purchasing to obtain competitive quotes on valves, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.; all major equipment needed for a project.
  • Maintain project schedules and budgets with Project Managers.
  • Review and interpret project specifications and scopes of work documents.
  • Maintain all customer and prospect accounts and contacts in CSI’s CRM software per training and procedures.
  • Visit future or potential customer sites to aid in design or scope of project.
  • Assist Project Managers in developing project projection reports to determine job performance and communicate performance to management.
  • Visit in-progress installation sites to provide support to field staff.
  • Develop AutoCAD drawings as required (P&ID and layout drawings).
  • Compare actual data with forecast data after jobs are completed to improve quoting accuracy and techniques.
