Job summary

IBA Proton Therapy in Boston region seeks a technically skilled professional to operate and maintain the Proton Therapy System (PTS). You will troubleshoot equipment issues, perform routine preventive maintenance, conduct system inspections, and communicate status to leadership while supporting hardware and software testing.

The role requires 3+ years in electrical/mechanical system repair, hands-on problem solving, and the ability to work rotating shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

B.S. in Engineering, Physics or other applicable field, or an Associate’s degree with 7+ years of relevant work experience.
3+ years' experience in electrical/mechanical system repair and maintenance of large integrated systems.
Experience with Proton Therapy or related high-tech equipment is a plus.
Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to work in regulated environments.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools for documentation.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain Proton Therapy System (PTS) equipment and perform troubleshooting.
Conduct routine preventative maintenance and system inspections.
Support hardware and software testing, including unit and integration testing.
Communicate system status to leadership and site stakeholders.
Train and mentor Technicians and new colleagues.

Mission

Responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment that is essential to the Proton Therapy System (PTS), troubleshooting equipment issues, performing routine preventative maintenance, conducting system inspections, and communicating the system’s status to leadership and other stakeholders, support hardware and software testing, and be involved in unit testing, integration testing, validation testing, and other site-related activities that allow IBA to deliver on our mission.

Challenges we trust you with

Maintain and deploy the Proton Therapy System (PTS) for various customer needs, which will include but not be limited to: Quality Assurance, Development, Software/Hardware Testing, Troubleshooting, and Experimentation.
Troubleshoot PTS equipment including electrical, mechanical, and software problems.
Perform maintenance of the PTS including but not limited to routine preventative maintenance, system upgrades, and corrective maintenance as necessary.
Perform system inspections and clearly communicate the status of the system to leadership as well as to IBA employees.
Provide support to PTS Hardware and Software testing.
Support daily clinical operations for the customer clinical staff as defined by the Site Manager and Site Technical Leader (STL) in accordance with site policies.
Maintain adequate records as defined by the customer and Site Manager in accordance with company QA and FDA regulations.
Support the PTS in all phases, which will include but not be limited to unit testing, integration testing, validation testing and other various site related activities as the Site Manager and STL defines them.
Train and mentor Technicians and new colleagues.
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
The incumbent must successfully pass the Oral Board examinations within the first 12 months of employment to remain eligible for this role.

What We Value

B.S. in Engineering, Physics or other applicable field, or an Associate’s degree with 7+ years of relevant work experience.
3+ years' experience in electrical/mechanical system repair, troubleshooting, maintenance of large integrated systems.
Candidate should have experience in several of the following: Cyclotrons, Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Software Analysis, X-Ray Systems, Positioning Equipment, Cooling Systems, Vacuum Systems, PLC’s (Siemens), Regulation Loops, Drivers, Sensors, Electric Motors, High Voltage Equipment, Power Supplies, Proton Therapy Systems, etc.
Solid general knowledge of/experience with - Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.
Knowledge of local EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) regulations.
Basic knowledge of LINUX systems, SAP, Siemens Step 7, and Service Max is a plus.
Experience in LEAN maintenance and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is a plus.

Physical demands of the role

Shift work in 2-3 week intervals.
Good manual dexterity to work with tools.
Ability to hear and speak clearly and be able to work on a computer and on video calls.
Ability to work in confined spaces, go up and down ladders and stairs, and safely work at heights with a safety harness with a 300-pound weight limitation, etc.
Work with hazardous materials, high voltage, and pressurized gases.
Occupational exposure to radiation, live electrical work, handling hazardous materials, and other occupational hazards pertaining to the maintenance of the Proton Therapy equipment. IBA require staff monitoring to measure your exposure levels. IBA has an Environmental Health and Safety program in place to monitor radiation exposure tracking internal limits to ensure compliance with applicable radiation laws.
Ability to access and navigate each department at the customer’s facility.
Ability to lift or move >50 pounds repeatedly.
Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
