Bigham Cable Construction, Inc. is hiring an Install Laborer - Drop Tech in Hickory, NC. This hands-on outdoor role requires performing underground construction tasks and operating specialized equipment.

You will work as part of a team to install and maintain telecom cables, follow safety protocols, and contribute to timely project completion in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age.
• Authorized to work in the United States for this company.
• Valid state driver's license with clean record.
• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years operating construction equipment or similar tasks.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Willing to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours.
• Able to work safely in all weather conditions.
• Strong communication and proactive problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction tasks such as loading, delivering, excavating, and operating advanced equipment.
• Install and maintain underground telecommunications cable with precision and adherence to specs.
• Operate and inspect construction equipment for safety and reliability.
• Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors on project objectives.
• Complete and submit detailed daily production reports.
• Assist with site restoration, including final grading and landscaping.
• Follow safety protocols and company policies.
• Collaborate with Level I laborers as needed to support projects.
• Work in all weather conditions to meet deadlines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a hands-on, outdoor position that requires working in all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind and other inclement weather. Must be comfortable performing hands-on, physically demanding work in an outdoor field environment.

At Bigham Cable Construction, as a Laborer II on our Telecom Underground team, you’ll take on advanced responsibilities in all phases of underground construction. Your expertise in equipment operation and attention to detail ensures successful project completion while fostering a safe and efficient work environment.

What you’ll do

• Perform highly skilled construction tasks such as loading, delivering, excavating, and operating advanced equipment for underground projects
• Install and maintain complex underground telecommunications cable with precision and adherence to project specificationsOperate and inspect construction equipment to ensure safety and reliability

What you’ll need

• At least 18 years of age
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• 2+ years of experience operating construction equipment, utility trucks, or performing similar tasks
• Strong ability to work independently and contribute in team environments
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as needed
• Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
• Effective communication skills and a proactive problem-solving approach

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: work alone in remote locations and confined spaces with arms above shoulder level. Operate vehicles and heavy machinery. Perform tasks requiring fine hand motion, bending, stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and lifting greater than 55 pounds
• Occasionally: use ladder, keyboard, and mouse
