Job summary

Rutherford County Schools seeks an exceptional middle grades Exceptional Children Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The teacher will develop and implement IEP-driven instruction, provide direct special education services, and monitor progress to meet goals.

Under supervision, the incumbent maintains records, coordinates with families and support staff, and fosters inclusive learning environments aligned with NC regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education with at least one area of disability as a teacher.
• Must be licensed in North Carolina.
• Experience implementing IEPs and related documentation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements an instructional plan aligned with IEP goals.
• Develops IEPs for students with disabilities and uses assessment data to update them.
• Provides direct special education instruction to identified students.
• Monitors student behavior and maintains appropriate classroom discipline.
• Communicates with parents regarding student progress through progress reports.
• Acts as case coordinator with caregivers and school staff.
• Maintains student records in compliance with regulations.
