Job summary

Sonoco Products Company in Chatham, NY is hiring an Inspector Packer to join our manufacturing team. You will assemble and label boxes, inspect products, and use gauges to verify specifications while following safety rules.

The position requires lifting up to 40 lbs, basic math and reading skills, and the ability to stand and perform repetitive motions. Swing shift with alternating start times and occasional overtime.

Qualifications

• Prefer 1–2 years manufacturing experience, but not required.
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills.
• Manual dexterity for packing and repetitive motions.
• Relate well to others and communicate effectively.
• Reliable with good initiative and quality focus.

Responsibilities

• Make boxes with appropriate labels attached.
• Transfer product to package using packing forks or hands.
• Inspect products for conformance to specifications.
• Use gauges to check dimensions or other specs.
• Notify operator or supervisor when quality problems are detected.
• Discard product not meeting specifications.
• Seal containers and place on skid using box lifter.
• Work safely and follow all safety rules.
• Work independently and manage multiple tasks; learn product quality requirements during training.
• Communicate with supervisors and peers to maintain cooperative relationships.

Position: Inspector Packer
Location: Chatham, NY
Pay: $20.66 an hour
Shift: Swing shift- One week is 6:45AM-3PM, following week is 2:45PM-11PM. (the shift alternates this pattern)

What You'll be Doing:

• Make boxes with appropriate labels attached.
• Utilize hands, packing forks, and/or other methods to transfer product to appropriate package
• Inspect products for conformance to specifications.
• Utilize gauges to check basic dimensions or other specifications.
• Notify operator or supervisor when quality problems are detected.
• Discard product not meeting specifications.
• Seal containers and place on skid utilizing the box lifter.
• Performs duties in accordance with all safety rules and use safe work methods.
• Work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously as needed. You will need to gain a working knowledge of our products and their quality requirements during your training period.
• Communicate with supervisors and peers while establishing and maintaining a constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
• Overtime required at times
