Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson seeks a field-based Construction Inspector in Washington, DC to apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing construction activities for structural quality, safety, and conformance to plans, specs, and codes.

The role emphasizes reviewing tests, measuring dimensions, documenting daily field reports, and coordinating with project management; candidates typically have 1–4 years of experience and a high school diploma, with preferred civil engineering or construction

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
  • 1-4 years of Construction Inspection experience.
  • Water/Wastewater construction or inspection experience.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
  • Review routine tests performed by contractor on concrete, soils, water pressure, and other items for accuracy and completeness
  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades, and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Verify construction material deliveries for compliance with contract submittals, specs, and drawings
  • Produce and maintain record documents during course of construction
  • Makes field notes and computations during course of construction
  • Develops and delivers accurate and detailed daily field reports for review by the project manager for submission to the client
  • Photograph construction progress
  • Review surveying stakeout and cut sheets throughout construction
  • Review contractor pay applications for work-percent complete and general accuracy

Immigration sponsorship

Compensation

Compensation for this position is $30.00 - $40.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Required Experience

  • Water/Wastewater construction or inspection experience
Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
