Position Overview

The Threshold Inspector is responsible for examining and evaluating buildings, structures and construction projects to ensure compliance with local, state and federal building codes, regulations and standards. The role will perform inspections at various stages of construction to verify that the materials, techniques, and workmanship meet the required thresholds for safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site inspections of buildings and construction projects at different phases of development.
• Evaluate structural components, materials, foundations and systems to ensure compliance with building codes and standards.
• Verify that construction practices align with approved plans and specifications.
• Identify and document deviations from regulations and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain detailed inspection records, including photographs, reports, and notes.
• Prepare comprehensive inspection reports outlining findings, observations, and deficiencies.
• Communicate inspection results effectively to managers as necessary.
• Stay updated with changes in building codes and regulations to ensure compliance.
• Collaborate with engineers and other construction professionals to address compliance issues.
• Exercise tact and courtesy when conducting inspections and dealing with clients.
• Drive to various job sites within Florida following all driving laws.
• Attend department meetings and follow safety procedures and policies.
• Work in varying shift schedules, including weekends and overnight shifts as needed.
• Complete daily time and labor reports promptly.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; welding certificate program or vocational training preferred.
• 0–2 years of experience in materials testing or inspections.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with reporting tools.
• Strong mathematical, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
• Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and technical documents.
• Certification in inspection‑related fields (ACI, ICC, etc.) preferred but not required at hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant certification (preferred or required depending on jurisdiction).
• Experience in structural inspection, construction oversight, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, and construction practices.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Travel Requirements

This position requires moderate travel, approximately up to 40% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment is required during travel and on‑site work.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk, and hear; and perform body motions such as bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing.
• Lift and/or move up to thirty‑five pounds regularly on average, and up to seventy‑five pounds on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Work in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions.
• Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man‑made obstacles.
• Regular exposure to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud.
