Job summary

Pelican Products in Torrance, CA is seeking a Quality Inspector I to perform routine inspections of raw materials, in-process parts, and finish products. You will work under supervision to develop foundational inspection skills and progress toward independent inspection responsibilities.

Responsibilities include using calipers and gauges, documenting results, and ensuring conformity to drawings and standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in mechanical inspection in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, inside/outside micrometers, verniers, pin gauges, height gauges, radius gauges, protractors and dial indicators.
  • Solid knowledge of inspection sampling methods.
  • Excellent GD&T knowledge and ability to read blueprints at a proficient level, determine standards and relate drawings of parts to the actual parts.
  • Ability to provide basic mechanical drafting training to inspectors-in-training and render illustrations of defects in parts.

  • Assists with maintaining inspection areas, quality records, and calibration documentation.
  • Maintains audit-ready inspection records and work areas.
  • Collaborates with Production and Quality personnel to support product quality and manufacturing compliance.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follows company policies, quality standards, and safety procedures.
  • Actively supports and complies with Pelican's objectives, guidelines and commitment to Safety, Environment and Quality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Quality Inspector I performs routine incoming, in-process, and final inspections of raw materials, components, subassemblies, and finished products to verify compliance with company quality standards, engineering drawings, specifications, and established procedures. Develops foundational inspection skills while working under the guidance of experienced Quality personnel and progresses toward independent inspection responsibilities.

What You'll Do

Under minimal supervision, inspects precision components and subassemblies for conformance to predetermined mechanical standards, specification, and tolerances according to the company's quality procedures, production drawings and industry standards.

  • Performs incoming, in-process, and final inspections using established inspection procedures and quality standards.
  • Uses basic measuring equipment, including calipers, rulers, gauges, and other standard inspection tools to verify product conformance.
  • Verifies products meet engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality requirements.

What We're Looking For

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee will frequently be required to perform standard physical activities such as standing, walking, sitting, and using hands and fingers to operate or handle objects.
  • The employee may also be required to perform non-standard physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally in accordance with job requirements.
