Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Quality Technician to support manufacturing processes and ensure adherence to NFPA 1901 regulations and customer expectations. You will perform inspections, data analysis and reporting, and participate in root cause analysis to prevent defects.

The role requires attention to detail, strong communication and teamwork, with the ability to read measuring equipment and engineering drawings. Training and cross‑training across quality areas are included.

Responsibilities

• Perform Pre‑Delivery Inspections in designated areas.

• Validate critical and safety items per Build Book and stop shipments if needed.
• Lead root cause analysis and practical problem solving.
• Create and maintain documentation (e.g., UL docs, certifications).
• Provide training and orientation; act as a safety role model.
• Cover other technicians as needed within quality areas.

Responsibilities

• Promote the expectation that team members will consider the impact of their work/actions on others and make deliberate decisions to act in ways that prevent rework or constraints on the process.
• Be a coach, cheerleader and player on the team.
• Promote systems and processes that enhance the team’s ability to meet customer expectations (NFPA 1901 regulations, Buy/Sell Agreements, UL requirements).
• Act as mediator when needed to clarify customer expectations and provide feedback to manufacturing supervision.
• Perform Pre‑Delivery Inspections of completed processes in designated buy/sell areas.
• Perform data entry, analysis and sharing/explanation of information.
• Generate Quality reports and be able to explain information.
• Validate all critical and safety items as required by the Build Book.
• Review all deviations, quality alerts, and stop shipments.
• Perform audits of new and existing processes.
• Write documents and manage document control (examples: UL documentation, UL certifications).
• Facilitate/participate in Root Cause Analysis, Practical Problem Solving, etc.
• Initiate non‑conforming material documents for supplier quality issues.
• Assist in the execution of activities that promote continuous improvement and protect customers.
• Conduct training, information sharing, and orientation sessions.
• Lead by example regarding safety and acting in the best interests of the team.
• Provide coverage for other technicians as needed (UL and Plant Quality Technicians).
• Any other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager or Smeal Management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience.

• Current Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days (Preferred).
• Knowledge of or ability to acquire a thorough understanding of customer expectations and regulatory requirements (NFPA 1901/NFPA 1900) (Preferred).
• Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) (Preferred).
• Able to read and understand engineering documents such as part prints, assembly drawings (Preferred).
• Willing to learn and rotate within all quality areas (Preferred).
• Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training, if needed) (Preferred).
