Job summary

Columbus McKinnon, a leading worldwide designer, manufacturer and marketer of motion solutions, seeks a quality inspector to identify defects, measure parts, and ensure conformance to prints. You will conduct calibration, compile inspection reports, and work with teams to improve quality in our NC facility.

Applicants should read blueprints, use CMMs and measurement tools, and clearly communicate findings. The role requires standing, lifting up to 40 pounds, and teamwork within a manufacturing

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 1+ year related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Experience using measurement tools and writing inspection reports.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and measure castings and machined parts for conformance.
  • Calibrate and maintain gages and equipment.
  • Compile inspection reports as required.
  • Collaborate with other departments to drive quality improvements.
  • Perform product containment when issues are found.
  • Support other departments as needed.

Job description

Responsible for identification, development, implementation and maintenance of various production process quality procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect and measure castings and machined parts to ensure conformity to prints and specifications.
  • Calibrate and maintain gages and equipment.
  • Compile inspection reports as required.
  • Work with groups as required to improve quality and continuous improvement.
  • Perform product containments.
  • Support other departments as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprint specifications.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, geometry and trigonometry, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs Read blueprints.
  • Ability to program & operate CMM.
  • Basic skills, Microsoft excel, Microsoft word.
  • Must have knowledge of and ability to use measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gage, thread gages, bore gages, optical compactor, CMM machines & etc.
  • Must be willing to expand (BOK) Body of Knowledge in profession.
  • Knowledge of CMBIS/PLUS and (ASQ) American Society of Quality Qualification/Plus
  • Knowledge of PPAP
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 1 + year related experience and/or training.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk.
  • The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
