Job summary

Airgas in Macon, GA is seeking an Inside Sales Representative / Backup VMI Driver to deliver high-energy customer service while providing essential operational support. You will guide customers on gases, welding supplies and related equipment, advise on product usage, and help create solutions for their projects.

This role blends sales with hands-on inventory and safety responsibilities. The position emphasizes strong communication with customers, accurate data entry, and dependable coordination

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must operate in a drug-free workplace.
• Valid driver’s license and clean MVR check.
• Minimum 2+ years in product, warehouse or sales environments; related life experience valued.
• Comfort using computers and phones; ability to learn systems and processes.
• Experience with inventory handling and order processing a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greet walk-in and phone customers; identify needs and locate merchandise.
• Complete and file paperwork for sales, quotes and important information.
• Enter sales data and quotes into the computer; perform product research.
• Process customer payments and record sales accurately.
• Organize and restock merchandise; maintain showroom and store presentation.
• Coordinate delivery and replenishment of industrial products and stock.
• Monitor branch inventory levels and ensure proper replenishment.
• Track delivery tickets and consignment fills; ensure smooth operations.

We’re looking for a Inside Sales Representative / Backup VMI Driver to join our team in a role that balances high-energy customer interaction with meaningful operational support. If you enjoy solving problems and building relationships in a dynamic, industrial environment, we want to meet you!

As a Inside Sales Representative will partner with our customers to provide industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and other essential supplies. You will serve as a trusted guide , advising customers on the tools, hardware, and materials needed to successfully complete their projects. By demonstrating equipment use and sharing insights on product quality , you help our customers pioneer new solutions in their own work.

As a Backup VMI Driver , you will play a vital role in our team’s success by ensuring our key local customers always receive seamless, reliable service. In this dynamic role , you will step in to deliver and manage critical safety and consumable inventories , keeping client storerooms and specialized vending cabinets perfectly organized. It’s an active, collaborative position where your adaptability and attention to detail directly impact customer satisfaction and keep local workforces safe.

• Welcomes and assists walk-in and telephone call-in customers, partnering with them to identify their specific product needs and locate merchandise.
• Accurately completes and files all required paperwork on a timely basis to document sales, quotes, or other important information.
• Enters sales & quote data into the computer system, using strong research skills to find the right information for customers.
• Processes customer payments for merchandise or services sold and efficiently enters the sales data into the computer.
• Organizes and restocks store merchandise as needed, beautifully arranging stock on shelves or racks to keep the sales area perfectly in order , as well as marking or ticketing items.
• Maintains showroom cleanliness and presentation by following procedures set forth by management.
• Coordinates the delivery and replenishment of various industrial products, vending machines, or storeroom items to support our customers’ daily operations.
• Monitors and maintains dedicated branch inventory levels for proper replenishment.
• Tracks and turns in delivery tickets and consignment fill tickets to keep operations running smoothly.
• Delivers and replenishes various industrial products, vending machines, or storeroom items directly to customers, ensuring they always have what they need.
• Performs basic troubleshooting and light repairs on mechanical vending systems as needed to support our clients.
• Reviews and manages manual stock levels of various inventories across multiple plant departments for timely reorders.
• Maintains dedicated branch inventory levels to ensure seamless, proper replenishment.
• Regularly required to move up to 60 pounds and transport up to 125 pounds, with material handling equipment provided to assist you.

Are you a MATCH?

Required Qualifications:

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
• Valid driver’s license, we will run a Motor Vehicle Report.
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in product, warehouse, or sales environments ( we also value an equivalent combination of education and unique life experience ).
• Requires frequent use of computer and telephones and occasional use of a forklift, pallet jack or other material handling equipment.
• Employees will frequently be required to position themselves to stock inventory and handle cylinders.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to multitasks.
• Ability to routinely move up to 60 pounds and move more than 60 pounds with the aid of material handling equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A background in gas, welding, or safety supplies is a wonderful asset. Intermediate knowledge of Google and/or MS Office Applications.
• A detailed understanding of SAP and PROS functionalities
• The ability to communicate clearly and warmly with a wide variety of people from different backgrounds.
• Forklift preferred.
