Job summary

Avenues Recovery Center in Norfolk, VA is seeking a licensed substance use counselor to join our inpatient extended care program. You will create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans and provide individual, group, and family therapy.

You will collaborate with the Clinical Director and treatment team, maintain thorough documentation, and uphold confidentiality and ethical practice while guiding clients through recovery.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in psychology, counseling or related field required.
• Virginia state licensure/certification to practice required.
• Excellent observational, collaborative and interpersonal skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Compassionate, dignified character modeling recovery principles.
• Ability to set strong boundaries and maintain absolute confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Create individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for each client.
• Conduct individual, group, family and couple therapy sessions.
• Take responsibility for all clinical needs, services, and aftercare for your client caseload.
• Prevent, intervene and de-escalate in crisis situations.
• Maintain impeccable documentation of client challenges, progress, relapse risk, and intervention.
• Collaborate with Clinical Director and treatment team for coordinated care.
• Model ethics, recovery principles in every interaction.
