Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Pharmacy Technician under the direction and supervision of a registered pharmacist to efficiently perform functions related to procurement, compounding, dispensing, and storage of medications in accordance with department policies to provide optimal pharmaceutical care.

Responsibilities

• Stock and restock medications and supplies in the pharmacy areas and in automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs).
• Prepack, prepare, and compound non-sterile and sterile medications.
• Follow aseptic technique for the preparation of sterile products and maintain appropriate cleaning and PPE.
• Triage phone calls and medication messages appropriately.
• Fill medication orders and deliver medications to assigned areas.

Summary

• Under the direction and supervision of a registered pharmacist, the pharmacy technician efficiently and effectively performs functions associated with the procurement, compounding, dispensing, and storage of medications in compliance with department policies and procedures to provide optimal pharmaceutical care.

Responsibilities

• Stock and restock medications and supplies in the pharmacy areas and in automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs)
• Prepack, prepare, and compound non-sterile and sterile medications
• Follow aseptic technique for the preparation of sterile products and maintain appropriate cleaning and protective personal equipment (PPE) while completing pharmacy tasks
• Triage phone calls and medication messages appropriately
• Fill medication orders
• Deliver medications to assigned areas
• Prepare medication kits and trays
• Complete medication returns to the pharmacy
• Regularly rotate medication stock and check for expired medications
• Demonstrate proficiency with electronic software and equipment
• Assist with purchasing or placing orders for medications and supplies
• Maintain pharmacy records, as required and appropriate
• Perform ADC transactions proficiently and triage ADC issues, as needed
• Complete and document outlined cleaning and temperature monitoring responsibilities
• Adhere to outlined department processes, including for controlled substances
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Ensure all medications are checked by a pharmacist before delivery to the floor.
• Train new personnel on responsibilities, as assigned

Credentials

• Current Pharmacy Technician Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy registration (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience

• H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
• 0-1 years' experience preferred but a minimum of 6 months of pharmacy experience is strongly preferred.
