Job summary

UVA Health in Charlottesville, VA is seeking an experienced Charge Nurse for Inpatient Psychiatry’s 5 East unit. This role combines direct patient care with leadership responsibilities in a Magnet-recognized academic medical center.

You will lead a 25-bed adult acute inpatient unit, mentor staff, and collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, nurses, and case managers to ensure recovery-focused care. Sign-on bonus and relocation support are available for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• RN with Virginia license and BLS required.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in BSN/MSN program to be completed within 5 years of hire.
• Experience as RN Clinician 2 or higher on the unit for 6 months or prior Charge Nurse experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily shift operations and coordinate unit workflow.
• Assign and balance patient care responsibilities across the nursing team.
• Serve as mentor, coach, and clinical resource for nursing staff.
• Support admissions, treatment planning, and discharge processes.
• Participate in crisis intervention and behavioral de-escalation efforts.
• Promote a safe, therapeutic milieu for patients and staff.
• Monitor quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
