Job summary

Atrium Health seeks a Psychiatric Technician to assist the RN in caring for psychiatric or chemically dependent patients, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or RN on the unit.

Responsibilities include observing and reporting signs, interacting therapeutically, facilitating group activities, using CPI techniques, and rounding on patients every half hour. On-call duties may be required. All tasks are performed in accordance with facility policy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date.
• BLS required per policy guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Observe, report, and document signs and symptoms or changes in patient behavior to charge nurse.
• Interact with patients therapeutically.
• Assist, initiate, and participate in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
• Use CPI techniques appropriately.
• M ake rounds on assigned patients at least every half hour during shift.
• Demonstrate flexibility in changing workload.
• Respond to patients with empathy, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
• Participate in unit-based process improvement activities.
• Participate in unit-based committees.
• On-call duties as requested by administration.
