Job summary

Nashville General Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician specialized in inventory management to ensure accurate stock levels, manage wholesale orders, and coordinate procurement for clinics.

Responsibilities include maintaining formulary accuracy, managing controlled substances documentation, and reducing waste through optimized par levels. The role requires hospital-setting experience and licensure compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Tennessee State Pharmacy Technician Registration in progress at hire or within 45 days.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by PTCB or equivalent required.
• Minimum of three years experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance of Pharmacy Inventory.
• Manage all aspects of daily medication orders from wholesaler.
• Place specialty drug orders through outside vendors.
• Coordinate medication procurement for Clinics.
• Ensure all medication barcodes are in the formulary database to support BCMA.
• Optimize medication inventory par levels to avoid stockouts and reduce waste.
• Record necessary information for compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act.
• Oversee controlled substances ordering and documentation.
• Monitor, communicate, and manage drug shortages.
• Lead Annual medication inventory and attend monthly GPO buyer call.
• Manage formulary change management process.
• Restocks shelves and areas after pricing received drugs.
• Process PO s in a timely manner with signature/date to AP.
• Deliver controlled substances to pharmacist for sign into perpetual inventory.
• Assess inventory daily and order through wholesaler per budgeted processes.
• Correctly check in wholesale drug orders per hospital policy.
• Locate order numbers and place orders via wholesaler/MSI machine.
• Rotate stock to keep inventory current and ensure expiration date stickers are maintained.
• Prepare and submit online stock orders for Materials Management; assure pars for IV fluids and supplies.
• Maintain inventory par levels from approved vendors.
• Generate reports documenting volume/purchasing/inventory.
• Discard wasted and destroyed drugs per Pharmacy procedure.
• Arrange for expired drug control return quarterly.
• Sequester and return manufacturer recalls.
• Maintain updated formulary to comply with Joint Commission.
• 340B Compliance and collaboration with Director of Pharmacy.
• Patient Charging and correct billing entries.
• Interpret medication administration records and charge sheets accurately; credit patients as needed.
• Process patient charge exceptions to ensure billing accuracy.
• Demonstrate professionalism and participate in performance improvement programs.
• Represent department with high moral standards and empathy.
• Attend staff meetings and act on minutes.
• Pursue continuing education to maintain certification; renewals on time.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Appropriately discards wasted and destroyed drugs in accordance with Pharmacy procedure.


• Arranges for expired drug control back to approved return vendor at least quarterly.


• Sequesters and returns manufacturer recalls.


• Maintains an updated formulary to comply with joint commission requirement.


• 340B Compliance


• Works with Director of Pharmacy and other parties to ensure compliance with 340B Program


• Patient Charging


• Accurately interprets medication administration records and charge sheets and enters the appropriate charges


• Accurately issues credit to patients for non-charted medications from the MAR and credits returned IVs to the patient.


• Processes patient charge exceptions to ensure accurate billing and revenue cycles.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma (or equivalent) or higher


• Tennessee State Pharmacy Technician Registration (application must be in progress before hire, and must be completed within 45 days of starting position)


• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification by PTCB (or equivalent)


• Minimum of three years experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting
