Job summary

Universal Health Services in Grand Forks, ND is expanding its behavioral health services with a brand-new unit, Altru Behavioral Health Center. The Mental Health Technician (PRN) will support inpatient care under RN supervision, assist with daily living tasks, observe and document patient information, and help ensure safety for both adults and children.

This PRN position requires availability for 36 hours/month with at least one weekend shift; Day or Night shifts are offered, with shift

Qualifications

• High school Graduate/GED required.
• Minimum one year experience.
• Crisis prevention experience.
• Ability to manage anger, fear, hostility and aggression in others.
• Ability to manage stress appropriately.
• Proficient in applicable software applications.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working as part of a team.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Attend to patient personal needs (oral hygiene, toileting, bathing, dressing, transferring) as required.
• Escort and monitor patients during admissions, transfers and discharges; provide line-of-sight or one-to-one support.
• Regularly observe and record patients' behaviors, temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and weight.
• Conduct therapies in accordance with patient's diagnosis and needs.
• Check and document luggage and personal belongings upon admission; maintain patient property list.
• Perform clerical duties including making patient charts, copying forms, filing, ordering supplies.
• Monitor and document patient's food and fluid intake; feeding patients as required.
• Complete and document 15 minute (or less) visual checks on patients per unit/hospital policy.
• Ensure patient dignity and respect patient values; provide emotional and psychological support to patients, families and friends.
