Job summary

OhioHealth in Columbus, OH is seeking a part-time Registered Dietitian to provide evidence-based nutrition care to patients. You will assess nutrition risk, develop feeding plans, and participate in quality initiatives.

The role rotates between Grant Medical Center and Pickerington Methodist Hospital, with mileage reimbursement and full benefits. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, RD credential with at least two years in acute care, and Ohio licensure; limited permit is accepted

Responsibilities

  • Performs nutrition assessment using age-appropriate standards and documents diagnoses.

Job Description Summary

***This is a part-time (24 hours/week), day shift position that helps to cover shifts for those taking TAP (PTO), or medical leave. 24 hours a week are the minimum, but there is opportunity to pick-up additional shifts for 40 hours/week. This role rotates between Grant Medical Center and Pickerington Methodist Hospital and provides eligibility for full benefits and mileage reimbursement***

JOB SUMMARY

Utilize evidence-based nutrition care to assess and reassess patient nutrition risk and identify nutrition needs. Develop parental and enteral feeding regimes. Create and implement nutrition protocols. Participate in quality improvement initiatives/committees. Provide nutrition counseling to patients and families as warranted. Participate in multidisciplinary interaction and education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Years of Experience: 1 (Required)
  • Registered, Licensed Dietitian with at least two or more years' experience in the acute care setting (Required - must achieve Registered Dietician credential within 6 months of date of hire)
  • Limited permit required if Registered Dietitian credential has not been obtained at time of hire.
  • Effective time management skills/organization and be a self-starter and team player.
  • Excellent analytic, communication, and documentation skills. Able to communicate effectively in English in-person, in writing, and on the telephone, utilize language services as needed; think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail.
  • Able to organize technical work; demonstrate excellent planning, problem solving, analysis, documentation, presentation, and organization skills; analyze and interpret data, processes and needs based on limited information; organize work and resources; define problems and solutions, prioritize workload; make recommendations; manage time effectively and plan and implement objectives effectively.
  • For certain assignments, an advanced degree and/or certification (CNSD, CDE, CNCP), and/or a minimum of two years' experience in acute care setting with a focus on the assigned specialized assignment may be desired.
  • Utilize pertinent medical data to develop and implement a nutrition plan of care.
  • Able to calculate equations to determine calorie intake, protein needs, body mass index, enteral/parental formulation, etc. on select individuals.
  • Basic computer skills.
Responsibilities And Duties
  • Performs nutrition assessment using age-appropriate standards, utilizing validated assessment tools and nutrition focused physical assessments. Includes documentation of nutrition related diagnosis when indicated. Demonstrate proficiency in accordance with Standards of Practice and Professional Performance for Registered Dietitian Nutritionist while providing age-appropriate plan of care for patients and families.
  • Coordinates nutrition therapy with physicians and other health care professionals. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and care planning sessions.
  • Plans, implements, and adapts nutritional care plan to meet physician orders, age, and disease specific physiologic needs. Intervention plan includes appropriate feeding route, mode, and nutrition prescription.
  • Monitors and evaluates patient response to medical nutrition therapy using specific goals and determines change if indicated.
  • Performs patient, family, and care giver education related to nutritional therapy and incorporates best method of learning style and communication into sessions. Educates and trains interdisciplinary team members, students, and interns.
  • Fosters teamwork and establishes effective strategies to implement innovative programs which leads to optimal clinical nutrition and financial outcomes.
  • Supports quality improvement, research, and outcome studies.
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities for waste reduction and service improvements.
  • Documents accurately and completely, including appropriate utilization of order writing privileges in electronic medical record.
  • Remains current on research developments and other methods of practice and incorporates this into current programs and services.
  • Supports the development and revision of nutrition related department tools, training materials, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in the evaluation of clinical nutrition products and equipment.
  • Complies with all regulatory standards, including federal, state, and accrediting agencies and adhere to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights policies.
  • Participates in and attends departmental meetings, team development, and professional programs, as appropriate.
  • Serves as an active member on multidisciplinary teams and/or committees. Ensures national program standards are met and always maintained for certified and/or recognized programs, as applicable.
  • Reviews research/peer-reviewed publications and practice recommendations and modifies practice as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

80%: Direct patient care activities (i.e. nutrition assessment, multidisciplinary rounds, etc.)

20%: Indirect patient care activities (i.e. record keeping, team education sessions, etc.)
