Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Tech to provide technical support in pharmaceutical care, including preparation and delivery of medications and sterile products, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

The role includes stocking and ordering of drugs, assisting with audits, and mentoring new staff, with an 8-hour evening shift from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. MercyOne Des Moines has a long history and a broad network in Central Iowa.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required when nationally certified through NHA.
• PTCB certification does not require HS diploma.
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification and Iowa Board of Pharmacy registration required at time of hire.
• Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepares medication orders.
• Delivers medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms and other areas.
• Restocks automated dispensing machines and cart inserts.
• Assists pharmacists with audits and unit inspections.
• Provided training and mentoring to new employees and directs workflow as needed.
• Performs duties under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

As a Certified Pharmacy Tech at MercyOne, provides technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care to clients of MercyOne Central Iowa Medical Center. Technical support includes the preparation and delivery of medications and sterile products, stocking and ordering of drugs and other products. Technical work is performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Schedule

• 8-hours Evenings 2:00 PM AM – 10:30 PM

General Requirements

• Prepares medication orders.
• Delivers medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
• Credits to the patient and restocks usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
• Assists the pharmacists with audits and completes assigned unit inspections.
• Restocks automated medication dispensing machines.
• Restocks tackle boxes and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts), and completes check in/out process.
• Communicates stock utilization and ordering needs.
• Compounds and labels extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
• Prepares IV admixtures including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes following strictly described, specific policies and procedures.
• Provides training and mentoring to new employees and assists in directing workflow as needed.
• Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED when nationally certified through NHA.
• PTCB nationally certified technicians do NOT require HS diploma or GED.
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification and Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at time of hire and proof of.
• Completion of Mandatory Reporter training for children and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
