Environmental Inorganic Manager
Summary

Responsible for managing the development and implementation of laboratory, services, and field programs, policies, and procedures from both a functional and technical perspective. This includes validating and auditing results, scheduling services, and resolving service and customer issues across the department. Provides advanced professional support to management within assigned areas, which are typically varied and moderately to highly complex. May oversee areas such as chemistry, biology, microbiology, field services, client services, or related functions.

Essential Functions
  • Manages staff, including hiring, training, development, engagement, performance evaluation, and compensation recommendations.
  • Oversees implementation and management of schedules, services, results, and related functional programs to achieve operational goals. Ensures appropriate alignment of leadership and resources.
  • Provides input and guidance on developing and aligning strategies, programs, policies, and procedures for assigned lab, service, or field areas.
  • Leads operational, instrumentation, and equipment reviews while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and institutional regulations and standards.
  • Recommends improvements to organizational policies, procedures, and operational practices.
  • Manages expectations across leadership, staff, and operational teams; facilitates communication regarding customer needs and business requirements, and establishes performance metrics.
  • Resolves escalated, technical, or sensitive customer and operational issues; coordinates with internal teams and external partners to ensure resolution.
  • Manages departmental or functional budgets, including resource allocation and approval of expenditures.
  • Oversees or participates in special projects, including identifying priorities, coordinating efforts, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices related to laboratory, service, and field operations.
  • Contributes to department efficiency and effectiveness through continuous improvement efforts and active team participation.
  • Promotes and supports the mission of Pace Analytical through professional, cooperative behavior and a commitment to a positive workplace environment.
Qualifications
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or a closely related field; AND five (5) years of relevant experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Knowledge And Skills

Three (3) years of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

  • Team leadership, employee development, and performance management practices.
  • Budget development and administration fundamentals.
  • Applicable laws, codes, and regulations related to laboratory or field operations.
  • Relevant computer applications and systems.
  • Effective interaction with diverse groups, including situations that may involve conflict.
  • Principles of program planning, development, and evaluation.
  • Techniques for delivering effective oral presentations.
  • Proper business English usage, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Physical / Mental Requirements
  • Ability to work in laboratory, office, and field environments.
  • Use of standard office and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds and frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds.
  • Visual ability to read printed materials and computer screens.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and via telephone.
Working Environment

Work is performed in laboratory, office, and field settings. The role may involve exposure to blood or bodily fluids, chemicals, fumes, gases, and other potentially hazardous materials. Travel may also be required.
