Job summary

Prince Edward County Public Schools in Prince Edward Middle School is seeking a Library Media Specialist for the middle school to empower students as critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and users of information. The role reports to the principal and is a ten-month position with a salary range of $55,000 to $85,250 and a $2,500 signing incentive.

It requires a Collegiate Professional license with endorsement in the assigned field and involves managing library operations

Qualifications

• Holds a Collegiate Professional license with an endorsement in assigned field.

Responsibilities

• Operates and supervises the library to which assigned.
• Evaluates, selects, requisitions, processes, and catalogs library materials.
• Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and makes library materials available to supplement the instructional program.
• Works with students to develop independent library skills including the use of reference materials.
• Conducts an annual inventory of materials and equipment.
• Participates in curriculum and staff development meetings.
• Organizes and maintains a check-out system for audio-visual hardware and repairs as needed.
• Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instructs teachers and students on the use of the system.
• Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest to teachers.
• Prepares and implements the library budget.
• Participates actively in library and other educational and professional associations.
• Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
• Supervises clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the library.
• Performs other duties as may be assigned
