Job summary

Dairy Queen of Globe, Inc. is seeking an Inmate Counselor for the Sheriff's Office Detention. This full-time position involves improving the mental health and wellbeing of Gila County Jail inmates through assessments, medication coordination, and collaboration with medical personnel.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and at least one year of counseling experience. A valid Driver’s License is also required for this role.

Location

Globe / Payson, AZ - Full Time

• Purpose: improve the mental health and wellbeing of Gila County Jail inmates.
• Assess and record inmates' mental health needs, coordinate medication provision, liaise with other contacts, and conduct research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct mental health assessments and prioritize psychiatric needs of inmates, conducting interviews to listen to their issues, evaluating acute and chronic symptoms, determining essential care required, and documenting and reporting test results.
• Documents contacts made with inmates, including on the phone and in person.
• Coordinates with medical personnel to provide inmates with medications.
• Liaises with officers, medical personnel, and outside contacts to obtain additional information and conducts research to find other mental health agencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field.

Minimum Years of Directly Related Experience Required

• One (1) year experience in counseling or related social work area.

Professional Credentials Required

• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License if position duties require.
