Job summary

Merck in the United States is seeking a Principal Scientist – Device Technical and Engineering Lead for Inhalation Programs (Director Equivalent). The role leads inhalation drug-device development, oversees cross-functional teams, and guides platform strategy across dry powder inhalers and nebulized therapies.

You will ensure regulatory alignment, device performance, and supplier collaboration, with responsibility for design controls, risk management, and readiness for clinical and commercial

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical, science, biomedical or engineering field with 10+ years in pharma/device/combo product development.
• Leadership of complex device or combination product programs with cross-functional teams.
• Strong knowledge of inhalation device design, risk management, and design controls.
• Experience with regulatory submissions and global regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities

• Provide inhalation subject-matter leadership across DPI, nebulized, and other respiratory programs.
• Lead device development strategy and cross-functional team integration for multiple programs.
• Engage with external CDMOs, device designers, suppliers and manufacturing partners.
• Oversee design controls, risk management, and aerosol performance testing.
• Author/regulatory submission content and support clinical supplies and manufacturing readiness.
