Job summary

Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology seeks an Infusion Services RN Leader to oversee direct patient care and infusion therapies, ensuring safe, high‑quality service. You will supervise infusion staff, coordinate scheduling, and uphold clinical standards in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include staff development, process improvement, and collaboration with providers and pharmacy to optimize patient flow and outcomes. A BSN or higher and Minnesota RN licensure are required.

Qualifications

• A.S. or B.S.N. degree in nursing.
• MN Licensure as a registered nurse.
• Four years of nursing experience, with two years infusion therapy desired.

Description

Clinical Care & Patient Experience

• Provides direct patient care and administers infusion therapies in accordance with provider orders, established protocols, policies, and standards of practice.
• Assesses patients before, during, and after treatment and appropriately responds to changes in condition, infusion reactions, and other clinical concerns.
• Serves as a clinical resource for nursing staff regarding complex patients, medications, infusion reactions, vascular access, and clinical decision‑making.
• Provides clinical coverage during staffing shortages, unexpected absences, or periods of increased patient volume when necessary to maintain safe patient care and department operations.
• Maintains clinical competency and remains current in infusion therapies, medications, emergency procedures, and standards of practice.
• Provides patient education regarding infusion therapies, medications, potential adverse effects, and treatment expectations.
• Ensures accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary team members to support continuity of care and a positive patient experience.

Staff Supervision & Development

• Provides direct supervision to assigned infusion staff and establishes expectations for clinical practice, professional conduct, teamwork, and patient care.
• Provides ongoing coaching, feedback, mentoring, and support to direct reports.
• Completes performance evaluations and establishes performance expectations and development goals.
• Addresses performance, attendance, conduct, and other employee concerns through appropriate coaching and progressive discipline in accordance with organizational policies.
• Escalates higher‑level disciplinary or employee relations matters to the Infusion Services Manager and Human Resources as appropriate.
• Participates in recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, orientation, and training of infusion staff and provides recommendations regarding candidate selection.
• Coordinates and/or completes required competencies, skills validations, and annual evaluations.
• Identifies staff education and development needs and supports ongoing professional growth.
• Promotes a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment and addresses staff concerns or conflicts in a timely manner.
• Serves as a clinical role model and resource for new and experienced infusion nurses.
• Serve as acting decision‑maker and point of contact in the absence of the Infusion Service Manager.

Infusion Operations, Staffing, Quality & Safety

• Oversee the day‑to‑day nursing operations of the infusion service to promote safe, efficient, and consistent patient care.
• Manages nursing schedules and staffing assignments to maintain appropriate coverage and nurse‑to‑patient ratios based on patient volume, acuity, treatment needs, and staff competency.
• Reviews and coordinates staff requests for PTO, FMLA, LOA, and other leaves of absence in collaboration with the Infusion Services Manager and appropriate organizational resources.
• Coordinates coverage for planned and unplanned absences and works with casual/PRN staff and other available resources to maintain safe staffing.
• Maintains clinical competency and provides clinical coverage during staffing shortages, unexpected absences, or periods of increased patient volume when necessary to maintain safe patient care and department operations.
• Monitors daily patient volume, staffing levels, patient flow, chair utilization, and nursing resources and adjust assignments as needed.
• Identifies and communicates current and anticipated staffing needs, recruitment priorities, vacancies, and changes in patient volume to the Infusion Services Manager.
• Oversees infusion supplies and inventory management to support uninterrupted patient care.
• Oversees infusion pump maintenance, tracking, and operational readiness.
• Supports implementation and maintenance of medication standard, clinical protocols, and department workflows.
• Ensures staff compliance with organizational policies, infusion protocols, infection prevention standard, regulatory requirements, and standards of practice.
• Participates in documentation, review and follow‑up of patient safety events, medication errors, infusion reactions, incident reports, and other clinical concerns.
• Identifies opportunities for process improvement and assists with implementation of new workflows, medications, therapies, and departmental initiatives.
• Supports standardization of nursing practices and workflows across locations.
• Works collaboratively with providers, pharmacy, scheduling, patient financial services, care coordinators, and other departments to resolve operational barriers.
• Monitors operational, staffing, quality, and safety concerns and escalates significant issues to the Infusion Services Manager.
• Serves as the primary day‑to‑day nursing leadership resource for the infusion team
• Serves as a primary day‑to‑day nursing resource and point of contact for providers regarding patient care needs, clinical concerns, scheduling considerations, staffing, and infusion operations. Escalates complex, unresolved, or service‑line matters to the Infusion Services Manager as appropriate.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and monitors opportunities to improve patient safety, efficiency, and patient experience.

In partnership and with direction by the Infusion Services Manager, perform leadership accountabilities to strengthen team performance and lead assigned department(s) toward meeting customer service and financial objectives.

• Participates in planning and holding regular staff meetings and communicates pertinent information to team members to set expectations and measure progress.
• Supports monitoring of key financial and operational indicators and implements strategies within the department to improve efficiency and resource utilization.
• Leads or participates in practice improvement initiatives, including PDSA activities, and ensures changes in workflows and procedures are effectively communicated and implemented.
• Monitors customer service indicators and works with staff to improve the patient experience.
• Provides input to the Infusion Services Manager regarding capital equipment and resource needs.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• A.S. or B.S.N. degree in nursing.
• MN Licensure as a registered nurse.
• Four years of experience in nursing, with two years of experience with infusion therapy desired.
