Job summary

Compass Oncology is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to support our Infusion Oncology care team across OR locations in Clackamas, Tigard, and Rose Quarter. The role is Per Diem/On-Call, up to 20 hours per week, with a salary range of $41.17–$69.36 per hour.

Qualifications

  • BSN preferred as a professional nursing degree.
  • Dual licensure in Oregon and Washington must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Chemo/Immunotherapy provider card is preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Ongoing continuing education requirements must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physician with exams and procedures.
  • Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
  • Assesses patients for changes in condition and initiates appropriate action.
  • Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient and protocol, and consults physician.
  • Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports, and maintains central line devices.
  • Administers all medications and blood products with correct dosing and route.
  • Documents nursing assessments and patient teaching in the chart.
  • Communicates interventions to the physician.
  • Ensures nursing charges are accurate on fee slips.
  • Acts as a resource to medical assistants.
  • Triages patient calls and documents information in the chart.
  • Provides patient/family teaching and educational materials.
  • Manages medication refill requests and records in chart.
  • Provides nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.
  • Follows OSHA guidelines handling cytotoxic agents and biohazardous waste.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Participates in cross-training across practice areas.

Education

BSN preferred
Dual Oregon/Washington licensure within 6 months of start date

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Compass Oncology, the Pacific Northwest’s largest private Cancer Care Clinic group, is looking for an exceptional Registered Nurses (RN) to support our Infusion Oncology care team at our various OR clinics (Clackamas, Tigard, and Rose Quarter location). Oncology experience is a plus, and previous Infusion Oncology experience highly preferred. This individual must also possess strong multi‑tasking abilities, and bring positivity and passion to their work. Employment Type: Per Diem/ On-Call; Up-to 20 hours per week

Location: Float between our OR locations

Salary: $41.17 - $69.36 Per Hour

Final offer amounts are determined by a review of the candidate’s applicable experience and qualifications, as well as, internal employee equity considerations.

Job Scope

Under general supervision, the RN provides professional nursing care for oncology patients following established standards and practices. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly—including physiological, psychological, and developmental differences unique to each group. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Assists physician with exams and procedures.
  • Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
  • Assesses patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans, drug reactions and initiates appropriate action.
  • Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
  • Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central line catheter devices.
  • Administers all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
  • Documents nursing assessments, patient teaching and fluid and medication administration in the patient chart.
  • Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician.
  • Ensures nursing charges are accurate and complete on patient fee slips.
  • Acts as a resource person to the medical assistants.
  • Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patients chart.
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.
  • Demonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals if necessary.
  • Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart.
  • Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed.
  • Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood‑borne pathogen.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Participates in cross‑training programs to develop skills across multiple areas of the practice and provide support where needed.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • Dual licensure in Oregon and Washington obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Chemotherapy Immunotherapy provider card preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements.
Experience / Training

Minimum 1-3 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year in oncology preferred.

Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
